tech spec for "17" vrs alloy wheels

Featured Replies

"please" can anyone help ? i need the full technical spec for "17" VRS octavia wheels

eg: 7J17 et35 plus tyre width, i do not understand wot this means but the vrs alloy will have a simillar spec, my reason for needing this is that i have 18 rs4 wheels on my octavia but they are to big, i am looking to get lenso elegance wheels for it but i need the right size from a "17" vrs wheel to make sure i do not make the same mistake twice, you can email back to [email protected] thanks for taking the time to read this message

Hi Bill - welcome

This section is really meant for just brief introductions; full technical posts should be directed to the relevant section of the forum.

But for your info, a 17" vRS wheel for a Mk1 Octavia is a 7.5J, ET35 and runs either a 205/50/17 or 225/45/17 tyre. The most important thing to get right is the alloy width and offset (ET number). So a 7.5 wide rim with an offset of between 30-40 would be suitable. Then the best tyre to run with is a 225/45/17.

Hope this helps,

Steve.

I thought standard wheels were 38mm offset?

I'm running 18x8s with a 35mm offset with no issues.

It could be a 38 thinking about it Rob. Just that it's late and knew it was one or the other :)

But yeah, general point is that the Octavia arches and setup is pretty accommodating as long as you don't go mad :D

Hiya.

Since we're answering the query anyway, there is no single "right tyre size" for a wheel, according to the tyre manufacturers. Their recommendation would be that you can mount a tyre on a wheel that is 70% to 95% of the tyre width. So a 7.5" (190.5mm) rim will accomodate anything from a 205 to a 265 section tyre. Note that this does not mean that an Octy's wheel arch and suspension would accomodate a 265 section.

7JX17H2 ET38 - according to ETKA.

Welcome :)
