welcome along, dont know anyhting about cadillacs but would suggest trying in the "ask a tech" section as you might get a quicker response

Hiya.

Nice car, great engine, but the only advice I can give you is to try asking the question on a GM forum!

Ah cool a Deville, my parents has one for a while in Florida. It was a DTS one and it was pretty powerful but front wheel drive which didn't make sense.

Welcome along, you're probably best just to cut your losses on it. How old is the car?

Thanks for the responses and the warm welcome guys it is a 1997 an i got it for free from my grandparents yes it does have great power and the front wheel drive is good for me because i live in michigan in the United States where we get a ton of snow and ice

how do i post in the ask a tech section?

I think you'd have to join Freedom first, and I'd not guarantee an answer whatever you do because we're good, but frankly don't know much about the Northstar engine.

How random, your most welcome here but how did you get to a Skoda forum to ask about an American GM engine?

Just curious.

what sort of gm v8 is it?? hemi?

is it the one with cast iron heads??

if the gasket is gone you will be better off taking off both heads and replacing them both at the same time, also bear in mind that if you skim one head you will need to skim the other one the same amount to keep it all even. i've not had much experience with gm v8's other than marine engines which are pretty much the same thing except they have an outdrive for the propshaft instead of a flywheel... also sometimes you find that if you do skim the heads you'll find that the intake manifold will no longer fit because the bolt holes don't line up so it will need to be flycut or possibly thicker intake gaskets can be used

one of my friends was searching for help on his cadillac cts and found this forum and they helped him out so i thought u guy and gals might be able to help me ou

but it is a 32 valve 4.6L northstar engine in an 1997 Cadillac Deville and it has aluminum heads

Note that, as earlier, I do not know a lot about the Northstar.

That said, IME a blown head gasket on an alloy head engine often demands either a major skim, or a new head. Tom's already discussed likely issues with bolt and port alignment using skimmed cylinder heads on a V engine with a 1-piece inlet header (but I don't know if that applies to the Northstar).
