Cheap as chips

Featured Replies

I read somewhere a few weeks ago that there will be baby laptops available that will have approx a 7 inch screen, for about a hundred quid. All I remember is that there will be no DVD/CD, they will have about 2GB and that they will be available through M&S and Next in about a month.

Did anyone else read this and can shed more light on the cheap little beggers? Seven inches is perfect handbag size and 2GB is nothing to complain about for that price. I'm trying to think of the implications of not having a DVD/CD, but as it will be used purely as a convienience thing I can't. I'm just thinking it's a better option if I'm stuck on the ferry for an hour I can use their free wifi and have a better experience than using my mobile.

Aren't they called netbooks? Not a brand, just a generic IT term for that type of portable computer?

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

As long as the laptop isn't one of those horrible ones that Maplins were selling. They're cheap, nasty, flimsy, slow, badly supported, and not compatible with anything including themselves :) I can't help wondering if they're selling off a job lot of the first generation Eee PCs. They weren't bad for a basic device, but the 7" screen had a huge border so the machine wasn't as small as the number would suggest.

THere's also those 3g subscription free pocket browsers that PC world do - I'm intrigued by how flexible they are(n't) but suspect they'll have to be a one trick pony for that peice.

Asda are currently selling Acer Aspire One netbooks for £150

Can Vag com be installed onto this or does windows need to be installed 1st?

You need windows but it is more than enough to run VCDS. (VAG-COM)

My Acer Aspire has a 160GB HDD.
