Featured Replies

Fitted a 24mm adjustable Whiteline rear ARB on my Octavia RS and I set is to medium. If you have one fitted what do did you find the best setting?

Thanks

I got it from Balance Motorsport, it cost me 174 euro and it's fitted to my RS hatchback which is a CR TDi:D

I'd get it on the stiffest setting and leave it there to get any improvement, neutralising understeer, over the OE setup.

The reason behind this is that the vRS (TDI and TFSI) has a 22mm rear arb as standard so, not wishing to disappoint, you should really have bought a fatter than OE bar to get an improvement.

Have a look at this thread for more info;- http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/taking-rs-next-level/83115/

The ARB I have fitted is 24mm and solid unlike the OEM one which is hollow

.... but your initial post says "Fitted a 22mm adjustable Whiteline rear ARB"

also, a hollow (tubular) bar is actually stiffer than a solid bar (I know from experience of hollow/solid axles when kart racing).

I think the orignal rear bar is 20.5mm. Sorry if I put the wrong mesurments down.

I think the strenght depends on the materials used and if it's heat treated or not.

I had a Whiteline adjustable on my old Scooby. I found that an advanced driver whom minimises brake use and applies power, steering and braking gently, progressively and smoothly whilst at high speed can benefit from the stiffer settings, or even stiffer bars. More erratic drivers whom brake late and hard, throw the car into corners and spend much of the exit wrestling it back into control should use softer bars/settings. After a few days with the 22mm bar on medium I swapped it for the hard setting and found a good improvement, but then driving a car with a 27mm bar REALLY suited my driving style. I have mates however whom struggle to control the back end on the OE 19mm bar due to their aggressive and erratic car control.

I'm a smooth driver, so I think I'll put it to the stiffest setting to see how I like it. I didn't want a car that would be too much of a handful in the wet. Thats the reason I put it on the medium setting the first time.

Sorry if I seemed 'a bit harsh' in some of my earlier comments :o there are, as you say, many variables to the stiffness of a bar.

Let me be constructive. You ought not to find the car 'a handful in the wet'; even with my 25mm Neuspeed bar the car is quite neutral , in the dry or wet, unless provoked by lifting off when cornering really hard.

As Corradoboy suggests; at lot of the handling in a car is down to the way it is driven. Enjoy. :D;)

Ah you where not harsh at all:rofl:

Anyway I changed the setting of the ARB to it's hardest of 3 settings and I took it for a spin today in the wet and the difference in wet weather grip is amazing. The back end felt fine, I'm sure I could get it out if I wanted and not when the car felt like it:cool:.

So I'll be leaving it on the stiffest setting from here on in. Looking forward to a dry day now!

Now I'm giving my superchip agent a call early tomorrow to see if he can get me the Bluefin this week. I think he said it's due out this week.
