Question for those with coilovers/ lowered suspension + Praise for AP

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Had my AP coilovers fitted on Saturday. I had somebody off a local forum do it who works for Ford (top bloke) fit them as I wasn't confident. They went on OK, except for hitting a couple of problems being:

1) Top mount nut in engine bay rounded off thanks to... you guessed it Seat Sport Strut Brace  ****ty thing is now going on eBay.

2) Drivers side strut a bit of a pain to come out. Big hammer needed.

3) Top mount nut difficult to get without piston spinning so was knocking over every bump but sorted in the end with an air gun

The ride on them is great, I'm very pleased. It is a little bit "bouncier" than standard on uneven B roads but on A roads its fantastic and it handles like a beaut, bodyroll is pretty much eliminated.

When the asked the missus what she thought of the ride she said she didn't notice any difference, and it was certainly still a million times better than the Spax spring kit I had on the Corsa

However I have questions.....

I noticed this evening that to keep going in a straight line I had to hold the steering wheel very slightly to the right, not much, but enough to be noticable.

My car has always pulled slightly left but it seems to do it a bit more now.

I am guessing that I need to have the tracking/ wheel alignment done? Am I correct?

I don't think the camber is adjustable with these coilovers, is that a problem?

I had my Corsa lowered and when I went to National Tyres they said they wouldnt align the wheels or do the tracking because it was lowered, does anyone know anywhere in South Wales that does lowered cars?

Has anyone had any problems with uneven tyre wear?

Thank you all for any help.

P.S.

Here is a pic, sorry for the poor quality. The front's are about halfway, and at the back the spring is sitting on the thread cup however the adjuster has been removed.

However I have a feeling I may put the adjuster back in and raise the hieght about 20mm at some point as its a touch too low.

Am I right in thinking that to remove the rear springs you just jack her up and undo the bottom shock bolt, then the rear subframe just drops down and the spring pulls out?

Also, somebody with AP's or similar, can you adjust the fronts without removing the wheel? as when the car was jacked up and the fronts done you could still access the front adjuster cups.

you are correct sir about the rear subframe and springs!!

and i suppose if you can get to the adjuster with just jacking up the car then i dont see why you cant although i'd rather take the wheel off so i can get a good measure on how far and how many turns i've done so i can keep both struts the same!

i know what you mean about bounciness! but my god with a RARB it handles like a go kart now compared to before!!

Have you got your adjusters in the back mate?

I have the black threaded part and the spring sat on that, but my standard wheels, the top of the tyre is just inside the arch, which is a touch too low for me.

Im running the adjusters... to remove them all you need to do is jack it up :) compress the spring by hand and pull it out

When i was running without the adjusters in the rear and you jacked it up the spring would just pop out - lol

Did you need to go to a specialist place or anything?

just go to any reputable tyre fitting place! they should do 4 wheel alignment!

Cant do 4 wheel alignment on the fabia but they should sort it out for you... why not go to Skoda ;)
