How much higher than the VRS is the 4x4 Octavia? (hatchback)

I know the VRS is 15mm lower than standard.

Thanks

From memory the 4x4 is 35mm higher than standard so the overall difference would be 50mm?

Just thought - thats for the Mk2 but Mk1 probably similar

Trying to think of an affordable way to lose the "giraffe" stance

High enough to drive through 18" of water that killed a rover 75 :D

I'd love to, but can't afford them. Will have to stick to springs for now

I put some H&R springs on my 4x4 but found them too hard a ride, so got some Golf 4motion estate sport springs instead. The H&R springs where around £160 I think and the genuine VW springs cost me £220. There is also a distance piece at the top of the strut on the 4x4 which can be removed as well.

So if I took out the distance piece on top of the strut would that bring it to standard height?

No because the standard 4x4 springs are taller too. The distance piece is only about 10mm thick but taking it out on its own would be more trouble than its worth I think.

Thanks :)

One other thing, if you do fit lower springs to your car you will need to replace the rear track control arms as the camber will be out and the rear tyres will wear out quicker on the inside edge. This happened to me when I put the H&R springs on. I bought some track control arms from a R32 Golf to correct the camber. You see nothing is ever cheap or simple!!

Thats definitely true!

I had to polybush and change the top mounts on my mk4 golf after i lowered it 50 on the front and 40 at the back......

something so simple can cause so many problems!

Have you by any chance got part no's for them?

:)Stuart? Sorry I meant Simon - SimonJ not StuartJ!

Mind you StuartJ has been through all this too....

Of the ones listed above that are not for heavy duty (ie higher 4x4) suspension the 1J0 505 323 L parts are the only ones that are current. If you get them new they are around £70 each!! I ended up getting a set of four from a 2003 R32 from eBay for £50 delivered.

When they arrived the only difference seemed to be that the holes for the bolts that attach to the trailing arm are slotted. The track control arms themselves are the same length.

Also the partnumber on the arms is only shown as 1J0 505 323 it doesn't show the L suffice. So watch out if not buying new parts.

Hope that is of some help.
