Eibach springs with standard dampers

Featured Replies

Hi,

Do many people find that the ride is a bit bouncy on the vrs with eibachs fitted,

but original dampers retained ?

What sort of aftermarket dampers do people fit to help this ?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Way I did it was: Eibachs + OEM dampers at first and then later on I fitted the matching Koni Dampers when the OEM dampers wore out.....

The OEM dampers will wear out more quickly then in the normal application, but will last for a bit. If it more bumpy as compared to the Eibach dampers, I'd be surprised.

However, if you dont cut down the bump stops, it will hit them and that can also cause this.

You live in Scotland, you've fitted harder springs with standard dampers on a car that's already underdamped, and you're wondering why the ride is bouncier?

Standard dampers are poo. Look at koni or bilstein.

ran oem dampers with eibachs for around 15k miles... was fine.. never trimmed the bumpstops either :)

ive been reading up on these and it seems you need to trim the bump stops, if you already have then im not sure

Thanks for all the replies.

The car actually belongs to my brother who wants to refit the standard springs

after buying it with the lowering springs already on.

I see what he means about being bouncy, but I think I've managed to convince

him to put money into new shocks, rather than standard bits as the car looks so

much nicer lowered.

Has anyone tried fitting Koni FSD's ? He's getting on a bit so wouldn't want the

damping to be too firm.

Koni FSDs worked very well with the Eibachs, it is more compliant and comfy :)

My car is on Eibachs with standard dampers, and it is not bouncy at all. I find the ride is perfect. As for the dampers wearing out more quickly, yes they will, but I think its more down to the type of roads you are using that will determine their lifespan.

i've got the same on mine , done about 40k like that , had no problems inc track days, Ring, Spa and Oulton Park

In reality the standard dampers will wear out quicker but do the job. However the bump stops need cutting down if you ever load up the car with luggage / rear passengers, or it will slam into them all the time. Also the front could hit the bump stop and badly unsettle the car on bad roads.

There were loads of threads about this when the Eibachs started to become popular at the time.
