DIY Servicing and Warranty

Hi Folks, just wanted to get some feed back on doing your own servicing, i.e. brakes pads, filters etc, would this effect my warranty with Skoda UK ?

Yes, potentially it would be void.

It needs to be done by a VAT registered garage, using genuine parts to the manufacturers servicing schedule. This should keep the warranty fully in tact. :)

As said

yes will invalidate your warranty

Another one to the yes as you need to get a VAT registered garage or a dealer to do the work for the warranty to be maintained. IIRC they must also use OEM parts or parts to the same standard as OEM.

Oil change? Would they ever know....

Thanks for the replies folks, nice to to get confirmation before I jump in. Right off to call the dealers about changing my brake pads .............

Just had a quote from my local dealer, for changing the front and rear pads ONLY, they quotes £225 !!! Perhaps I'm a little out of touch with these things but I was a little shocked to say the least

That sounds about par for the course assuming it includes Parts, Labour and VAT

Yep that apparently is an all in price, would it be much cheaper at an independant garage do you think

Yep. But that stands to reason with smaler overheads etc. But nothing wrong with getting a local inde quote and going back to the dealer.

Lummox, would the dealer 'price match' then ?

Dealer can probably get a bit closer but I'm not sure they would match entirely match. I know my dealer got closer when I got the rears done in a rush.

Many indy garages use parts from GSF etc, which are from quality manufacturers, possibly even the same as the OEM, and to OEM quality, but are not actually OEM parts.

Just as I left the dealers , it came in that you dont HAVE to use OEM , but equivalent quality

Thanks for the input folks, much appreciated, looks like the next service is gonna cost me  but then again I can't complain I've had 2 years of free ones. So all in all its not bad. Once again many thanks for your help

If you have had two years of free servicing. I assume you mean yearly service. Then your next service it due when its three years old. Then it will be out of warranty so you may as well diy it.

Also try calling around local vag dealers, just out of intrest I did some calls for when my service is due

Most expensive was Seat place at £80 more, VW/Audi & Skoda places was under £10 in it!

Some dealers are doing special service deals.

Did this on my last Mondeo's service. Guy @ counter said £200 for 85k service, but needed to ring central booking line and mention the special deal. So I said I was told about the special deal they were doing, and the lady said "yes the £99 service, sure thing I'll get that booked now".

Ker-ching.
