Rear screen wash repair kit

Featured Replies

If anyone has screen wash water in the boot, the pipe has come off the connection to the motor drive body or the pipe up the centre of the wiper spindle has snapped.

A repair kit is available for this from VW.

Part No 8L0998711

It fixed my four year old Fabia rear wiper leak

It cost me £30 and an hour or so of my time, which seemed better than £76 pounds for a complete unit.

whats in the kit ?

whats in the kit ?

Seem to remember seeing something about a clip (and warnings about making sure water strength is well up in cold weather- mine froze even with 50/50)though there's not a lot of room in the front of standrd Fabias -I couldn't see the joint when mine went ,but it was under warrenty ,so a kind dealer fixed it .The rear one's easy to get to -hardest job is getting trim to stay back ..

There is a spindle with a gear mechanism on the end.A brass pipe connected to a nipple (for the water pipe).A water jet.A gasketfor the back of the motor drive.Various O rings and seals for the pipe up the centre of spindle.Good instruction leaflet.

It's not freezing that breaks the spindle, it just corrodes and siezes up.

The result is that the rear washer jet spins along with the wiper, and some of the fluid exits from the housing and dribbles down the tailgate. It looks fine from the outside of the wiper assembly.

Just bought one of these to do mine and it's a good kit, fixes the problem very nicely.

If you need any of the metal clips for the tailgate trim, they are 4B0 867 276A at 0.31 each plus VAT.

Wonder why Skoda don't sell the kit ?

Mine moved with the wiper, the first time I used it after I bought it from the Dealers. It's a sort of thing they should have spotted whilst doing a service before purchase. Skoda replaced the whole unit under warranty.

A new wiper motor assembly is £74 + Gasket + VAT so approx £85. I know because mine failed this year. This kit may be useful in the future if the washer fails again. I eventually got the motor 2nd hand from Skodaspares for £20 + VAT.
