Pete

what turbo did you get in the end?

that garrett hybrid?

Yes mate the garrett hybrid gt28rs, but I'm worried about the torque it will produce I don't want to brake a con rod..

those rods look fine make are you going to rebuild the complete bottom end???

I'm only going to replace the rods as the pistons and forged crank are quite strong for standard.

What evidence do we have re the stock ones breaking and if so at what rpm lb/ft is the problem happening?

Greg.

Around 300lbs/ft if the forums are to be believed...

Yup seen plenty of stretched ones in the past, that and the big end bolts.

I'm sure Delcac can supply a picture of stretched rods if asked.........................LOL

Slightly ot I know, but related, isn't the 5 speed box going to have issues over 250lb/ft from memory too? I know on tuned tdi's running from 250-500lb/ft have to have 6 speed & fancy clutches.

You have probably considered this already though. Good luck with the rods.

And Jon (TaviaRS) posted pictures of a broken one a fair while ago. :(

Yeah the 5 speed box is not that strong, I will have to go for the s3 six speed but I will wait for mine to break first.
