Greenlight Insurance and Northern Ireland

Featured Replies

Well I am not impressed with them, yet another insurance company that discriminates against 1.6 million British citizens by refusing to quote for motor insurance for Northern Ireland. This should be illegal.

Does that mean Kev can sue because they refuse to quote for his maxxed Saxo, or that any travelling sales rep can sue because they can't get a reasonable quote because they have 9 points...

It's all about risk, whether it be real or percieved. They don't HAVE to insure anyone.

Simple.

What about us ubertorqued rollerskate drivers with gp9? :D

My problem is that they do not refuse to insure certain N.I post codes, just the whole bloody country. Also many of thes e companies are simply brokers for multiple insurance companies and yet still refuse to quote (despite the fact that I know for certain of instances in which at least one of the insurance companies they broker for certainly will insure cars in N. Ireland.

Again, it's their choice not to offer codes to NI Addresses, which to be perfectly frank, have been considered too high a risk for a long time, and for very good reasons.

Perhaps it will change in the future, but insurers have long memories just like everyone else.

You could always move ;)

If profit could not be made insuring in NI then no compant would. Some do therefore it is profitable and not too high a risk. Let me put it this way if insurance companies started saying they would not insure anyone living in London, or Manchester, or Wales, some how I think there would be an uproar and government action etc. This is nothing but discrimination disguised as companies free choice.

There are plenty of companies who have either refused to quote or have quoted ridiculously high prices to discourage business from certain areas.

Get over it.

Problem is as Geoff says if it is illegal all the insurance companies will do is quote exceedingly high amounts like

They no longer insure Imprezas or Evos.

Steve

They wouldn't insure me in either Leeds or Manchester. Had an email response both times saying 'your postcode (M or L, they weren't more specific) has had a bad claims history with us and so they won't insure me.

Can i sue "Diamond" as they offer better deals for Female drivers?

Surely it's discrimination.

This country's getting as bad as America, we'll be suing if someone gives us the wrong time of day next
