Brake pad question

Featured Replies

Hi all

At my last MOT the mechanic/inspector said that my front brake pads were getting low. So my question is does the (04) VRS have a low brake pad indicator(s), either electrical or mechanical?

Sorry Kittens, if this has been asked before.

no

Thanks

It seams strange that it hasn't got one any, as you could not tell if you had a sticking caliper, especially with Fabias on steel wheels, until you get metal to metal contact on one side. My father has worn down some EBC Red stuff on his Scoobie with a rear sticking caliper within a 2-3K miles.

Which reminds me, does anyone know of anywhere to get 2 calipers refurbished?

I am going to replace my front pads with EBC Green stuff. Yes, before everyone slates them, we have used them on 3 of our cars with no problems, they suit our driving styles, produce less dust and protects the discs.

I have read in Haynes, and on here, that you need to replace the pad retaining bolts when you replace the pads. Does the EBC pads come with these new bolts? Also is there a picture guide on here on replacing front discs/pads as I've only found ones for rear pads and upgrade discs.

replacing the front brakes is pretty straight forward, hence no guide ,

i wouldn't think the EBC pad kit would come with caliper bolts , i can't see any problem with using the old ones anyway

take the calipers off , bin old pads, remove big/tight bolts from caliper slide bracket , remove disc using allen key or large crosspoint screw driver, push caliper piston back and fit the new parts

Thank you

Do you think I should replace my discs after 55K miles when I replace my pads? I have had the car sints 37k miles, I don't know if the previous owner replaced the pads. I am very tempted to buy EBC's black Ultimax slotted discs.
