Can't open the tailgate, help

Featured Replies

This just happened yesterday.

The remote central locking will not open the tailgate.

Opens all the doors ok.

I am guessing the solenoid/motor is either jammed or seized. This is frustrating as I also can't use the key.

The only way in is to pull down rear seats and crawl in to release the orange lever to get someone to pull the boot up. I took the plastic cover off the tailgate and checked all wires are fitted ok. I released the arm to the key lock thinking the solenoid was stopping the key lock turning, but it still did not turn, so thinking this is siezed now also....

Any ideas what the problem is and how I can manually open the tailgate from outside....

IIRC theres a manual switch on the lock that can be accessed if you get into the boot through the back seats. Theres a plastic tab that needs to be unclips first.

JUST HAD A LOOK AND ITS SHOWN IN THE MANUAL

Thanks but I know that, as explained in the above message. What I want to know is how can I overide the solenoid temporary?

The tailgate lock motor is controlled directly by the central convenience unit. It is not individually fused. There is a 2-way connector (Yellow/Blue and Grey/Yellow) that feeds the motor. You could try disconnecting the connector, but if that doesn't work you will have to fix/replace the lock motor unit.

Thanks, I will be replacing the solenoid/motor shortly but just wanted to get into the boot from the outside. I thought that if i disconnect the rod that comes from the motor, I would be left with being able to turn the key lock. I am now thinking this key lock is seized as I have never used it(never had the need)
