Lamin-x headlight tints. Which colour?

Featured Replies

Hi

Ordered some lamin-x headlight protection in gunsmoke, but then after concerns of legality, changed my mind to Yellow, which is 100% road legal.

However after emailing to change my order, got this back from the guy who runs the shop:-

None of our light protection films are illegal. The reason we state that Yellow is legal is because its the only film which produces a coloured light (Yellow) where as none of the others do. In the UK forward facing lights should produce a white or yellow light by law and many people don't realise that Yellow is legal. Our GunSmoke/SubtleTint/OpticBlue and Yellow all produce a legal White or Yellow light.

There is no law/mot requirement regarding the colour of the actual lense.

So it seems my only dilemma is which colour to go for?

Did a quick photoshop, to give a rough idea

Any opinions please, as I have to let the guy know before the morning

TIA

Damian

No it does'nt

Thanks anyway :P

The yellow is much more yellow than that - have a look at the foglights on my Fabia in the "dirty fabia" thread - they're done with lamin-x film.

surely all your doing is reducing the amount of light on the road?

sorry to be a thread basher but does seem like a bad idea to me? id just rather buy some decent bulbs and leave the headlamp alone.

Personally I wouldn't do it, but that's not what you asked to hear...

Ordinarily I would say gunsmoke, but I think in your case the yellow would look better with a red car :)

I wouldn't do it as it's going to reduce the amount of light you have.

If you want to do it then I'd say clear or yellow.

Regarding gunsmoke etc, I'm sure the police could have you up on something as you're reducing the light out of the front of the car a lot.

oh dear, seems not one person likes them apart from me. Oh well, I will try them and if I dont like them on then I will just peel them off. Thanks for the replies though guys, much appreciated. Damian

I had this stuff on for about 10 minutes and the light output was reduced to a dangerous level.

waste of time and money

May I ask, was that with the standard or uprated bulbs? Cheers, Damian

HID kit.

Thanks for the reply. In the thread in the Fabia section, I see someone replied to you that you should have left them on for at least an hour for the light to pass through the adhesive properly. Do you think this could be a reason for your bad experience? I guess I will just try one light first and compare them. Like I said I can peel it off if its pants, and return the other. Least that way I'm only 23 quid down :-(

I like them in the gunsmoke

Maybe not the best time of year to do it if you're not sure on how it effects the light output. In summer I could easily avoid driving in the dark to give them a few days to settle.

I would be tempted by the 6% tint just to take off the edge of all the chrome trimming in my (standard OEM) lexus style lights.

i really like the gunsmoke film but not sure if its a bit much on a red car.

maybe the lighter tint would be better, thats the dilema i have.

as for light output, the gunsmoke is stated to reduce light by 10%, if you uprate bulbs from standard then they should be fine. adrian who has gunsmoke on his says his lights are fine at night but he has xenons.

as for aftermarket HID set up's, in any car i've been in with these fitted i've found the lighting to be **** anyway so wouldnt be surprised if the tint made it worse.

Seems quite popular for the A3 guys. Hadn't seen it about apart from that.

Can't say I'm a massive fan, but worth a go to see how it looks I reckon

I'd say anthracite/grey, based on the look above - as long as it doesn't reduce the light output too much.

Steve

I like the gunsmoke, would probably look better with a light tint just to make it really subtle.
