MFD3 not fully working

Featured Replies

Hello all, I have purchased an MFD3 off ebay and after fitting the unit it seams that their is no sound from the radio, no sound form the cd-changer and when you load a dvd in it does not work either it does work when using the sat anv fuction and directions are given through the speakers, I may be doing something wrong could anyone help before I send it back, for your information the car is a 56 plate vrs i did have the standard cd/radio fitted, this was changed for the MFD2 and now for the MFD3, both the cd/radio worked fine and the MFD2 worked fine apart from changing the earth on the cd changer after fitting the MFD2 in the multi plug that connects to the back of the MFD2 unit, I did try the earth back in its original position in the multiplug but with no luck, and the car was coded by skoda for the MFD2, does the car need coding again for a MFD3?

Cheers boys hope you can help

The MFD3 may need coding, was it new or a refurb unit. This will need either the latest version of VCDS or your dealer.

As Manny quite rightly says the unit will most probably need coding. I get really pi$$ed off with people saying 'oh yeah you can fit these without coding' or 'mine worked ok without it', it's quite simple - If you fit a unit it will need setting up properly.

I'd say yours is coded for an external amplifier and hence mutes the speaker terminals.

Have a look in the VCDS forum for a list of owners willing to help. You'll need somone with a CAN capable cable.

Also update you location in your bio, it makes it easier for us to help.

Cheers VRStu for your quick reply i will update my location, does this mean that as my car was coded by skoda for my MFD2 it may require recoding again for the MFD3?

Cheers from Mr Bennie i stay in SW Scotland.

It looks like a re-furb unit but says it was manufactured in May 2008 but the security seals look a bit suspect.

forgot some information

No not the car that will be coded correctly, the MFD3 itself needs coding. The MFD3 is a computer in its own right, and as such will need its own settings.

The MFD3 needs to know things like, is there a skoda sound system, is the CD changer present, does the aux in socket exist in the armrest for example. I suspect like stu, that the current MFD3 coding is for an external sound system.

Only the latest VAS software revision (dealer computer) or a newer version of VCDS has the required code that can set the MFD3 correctly.

It's not too much of a big deal Stephen, it's case of 'telling' the unit that you don't have DSP etc and hopefully all will be well.

Hi mannyo thanks for that information look like i need the MFD3 coded for my requirments, do you know if skoda can do this or would i require help from a helpfull briskoda person?

Dealer should be able to do it as long as their computer is up to date.

Hello just to give you all an update, my local skoda dealer has been very slow in helping out with recoding, in the mean time I e-mailed the guy about the problems I have have experenced with the MFD3 and he has asked me to send it back and he will ship out another unit, he did say it will be a new unit but I am not sure if it will be a new unit but time will tell, will let you know if the next unit has the same problems, I will still get it coded and if my local dealer is being slow in helping out I may ask for some assistance from a friendly briskoda chap with VCDS, cheers boys

Stephen - I'd be interested to know who the seller on ebay was as I'm looking for an MFD3 myself and would be happier buying from a seller who has been willing to help with an aftersales issue.

Hello again boys, just to give you an update the seller has taken a very long time to resolve the faulty unit, so I started a claim against him through pay pal, during the claim he e-mailed me back to say he had another unit for me and he sent it out to me, the replacment unit looked the same unit that I received the first time.

After fitting the unit all is well and all functions worked ok, sounds great but still not sure what the seller did to the unit but it works fine, still to check the hard disc and load some infromation on.

I will also get the unit coded by skoda sone as it will be in shortly getting a new windscreen under warrenty.

The good thing the seller agread to refund me £100 to cover the postage after sending the first unit back, GPS Ariel which he forgot to send and the fact the screen had a small mark that is not noticable when the unit is on, all in all a good result.

Next question is how easy is it to display parking sensor infromation and resolve the issue about the ariel conection only being conected to one input?
