AC not working

Featured Replies

I tried the AC today to help de-mist the car and obviously it didnt work :thumbdwn:

There was no loud click from the engine bay when it starts up ?

I have only used it about twice since getting the car back in september and it worked fine but havent used it for a while though !

Anyone have any ideas ? re-gas maybe ?

Thanks

Richard

AC doesn't work below about 2deg C. There's a cutout.

No worries. You can tell when it stops as the car begins to steam up. It's to stop the system freezing up.

Use the aircon for at least 10 minutes every day. The oil for the pump and seals is part of the gas, and if not used, the seals dry out and leak. Aircon isn't just for hot weather, it has it's benefits all year round.

I leave mine on all the time.

Sensible, modern aircon doesn't use much fuel now anyway.

The Fabia system and as with all the modern VAG cars is constantly driven, there is no clutch so the oil and gas/liquid is always circulating around the system.

The AC won't work at all below 4 degrees, so even with the light on, it's not working :).

So long as you run it about once a month you will be fine. Mines still Ok after 80k.

Surely it will freeze up in seriously cold weather? mine won't demist when it's cold?

Just because the system is running it doesnt mean the AC is on. the compressor runs at 2% load and thus effectively does very little other than circulate the gas.

Thanks for that, you learn something every day
