Faulty bulb warning light on vRS

Featured Replies

Brought by vRS in for a service the other day and they told me one of the brake light bulbs had gone. Was kind of surprised the bulb fault warning light didn't come on first. According to the dealer, there is no such wanring light on the vRS. They claimn the manual is generic and not model specific, which is why you see things like low windscreen washer lights mentioned, but they aren't actually in the vRS spec at all.

Anyone ?

Is the dealer pulling my leg ?

Dealer is correct

Fair enough. I thought for that something like a warning light for faulty bulbs would be standard.

Strange as it may seem,...

to warn of a malfunctioning brake light switch, or faulty brake lights, the glow plug warning light flashes on VW group TDis!!

Weird eh?

Yeah. The thing is the manual I got with my vRS says there is a warning light for a faulty brake light, indicator or headlight, and also a warning light for when you run low on windscreen washer. However these are only fitted on "top of the range" Octavias according to my dealer and the manual is generic. So maybe the vRS is bottom of the range then :) To be honest I was actually worried that a sensor had blown. At least it was only one bulb which went. Other then that I've had my vRS 7.5 months and besides a couple of squeaks from the drivers door and centre armrest it's been perfect.

Are you sure that the warning bulb hasn't blown? wink.gif

:)

You would think spending 27k euro on a car with get you a few gagdets.

I had an Alfa 147 that would almost talk to you before that. Problem was it was always giving false negatives - faulty brakes, rear foglight failure etc... when there was actually nothing wrong.

And that was what I was told when I mentioned that my ESP button on my 4*4 intermittently came on at one Skoda garage .

However it seemed to me that it always occured when suddenly changing direction so I called into my old garage - Browns of High Wycombe - and they correctly diagnosed and replaced a lateral motion sensor within an hour - impressive stuff !

This is all the more important since living up in N Wales nowadays , I have now got used to the car and am having fun . My second set of tyres are only going to last about 12000 miles on the rears , after the first lot went on for 25000 !!

You sure it wasn't just "in action" - the light *should* flicker when it's doing something.

yes I would agree Ian , but it should not remain on for the rest of the journey which was the problem .
