Front Components for Octy vRS

Featured Replies

What's the best front components to get for an Octy vRS?

I've changed the HU to an Alpine CDA 9831 and the rear speakers to 3 way pioneers, so it's the front's turn now.

I also want to maintain the tweeters in the same position behind the dooor pods, so I presume the options fall into 2 Cats;-

1) Direct replacement, and

2) Some Mods to door required.

Ta in advance.

Are you planning on running them with or without a sub , as that would affect the recommendations?

The kenwoods I have sound wonderful and drop straight in but aren't the most bassy of speakers so wouldn't be good if you have no sub

No plans for a sub.

Just looking to do a replacement of the Fr OEM speakers driven off the HU.

Seen the link for the Fr Infinity 6500cs install so that's one option under Cat 2.

1 will be needed

2 shouldn't be needed, hopefully. I might have to because I've bought some rather deep infinity kappa comps, but I don't mind hacking the speaker grill part of the door card - I got two spare lying around next to a fooked Fabia. ;)

Hello,

I used to have Crystal CSC60's - Mega sound and not too bad to fit. Need to chop the door webbing but only in the interests of quality. Next ones to go in my current Octy are Focal Freedom's

Has anyone had any experience of Alpine SPR series speakers, I'm looking at the 176A models?

The technical blurb looks good and I assuming that they should match up with my Alpine CDA HU.

I'm off to try and find a pair to listen too this W/E.

The Infinity 6500cs also seem to get good reviews, but I'm not too sure about the butchering work required.

Apologies if I seem to be hijacking this thread, but it's been on my mind for a while...

I take it there is some sort of crossover somewhere in an Octy vRS for the front and rear speakers.

Question - if I buy a set of components, do I have to locate and change this crossover, or is it simply a case of switching over the tweeters and main speakers? I don't fancy taking my doors apart, but I do need better speakers to compliment my lovely 24-bit Pioneer HU...

The standard speakers just have a capacitor in line with the tweeter which does the job of a bigger crossover. It's up under the plastic panel with the tweeter itself IIRC , so when you disconnect the OEM speakers it will be gone.

Ah.

Next question... Should I just disconnect the tweeter and get a high quality 3-way speaker for the doors?

Not unless you like all the sound coming from by your feet.

Having components with tweeters at the top makes a big difference , bringing the sound up so that the music comes from in front of you rather than below.

Wat's the maximum mounting depth for the Octy fr speakers ?

I did the Infinity reference 6500cs install a week ago. Took about 6 hours following the excellent advice from the install-with-pics on here. The hacksaw work really is a piece of p**s. the only tough bit is getting the cover off the driver's door window switch pad. The sound directly off the Kenwood KRC791 HU that I have is stunning in comparison to the OEM speakers (which are in the dustbin). I have yet to do anything in the back except of course I have disconnected the rear tweeters.

BTW, the infinity tweeters do fit into the door pods fine without any cutting or glueing.

All the best with your choice of install.

Max depth I am not sure about but the little hacksaw cutting job is essential - and quick and easy.
