Anyone fitted an induction kit to a CR TDI vRS?

Featured Replies

I know a few vRS PD TDI owners have fitted them with good results (thanks to Guy aka Bahnstormer vRS for his advice already) but have any CR TDI owners fitted them and if so what was the outcome?

I'm looking at the K&N 57i - VW Golf V 1.9/2.0 DSL 2003-2008 K&N 57i Induction Kit [kn 57-0618 6] - £95.38 : Towbars, Induction Kits | Wheel Trims | Roof Bars | Car Seat Covers

I know it lists it as a Golf part but they don't list it under Skoda - I am led to believe that this is the right one (same as TDI PD).

Might try one. Are they expensive and what are the benefits ?

Increased power gains - in some cases as much as 10bhp - 15bhp.

Price is £95, as per the link above.

I had one (K&N system on my VRS) but I took it off as the increase in induction noise was simply too much for long journeys. (It made my tinnitus much worse :(). I just have a K&N filter in the standard air box now.

So Id go drive a car with one to hear for yourself.

Was this on a CR TDI vRS?

Correct one AFAIK, part number can be confirmed from K&Ns website as here;- 57-0618 - K&N 57i Series Kits, Performance Intake Kit

Toys4Cars listing is deceptive (misleading?) as they are not using the correct photo; K&N's photo is correct, naturally.

I don't doubt you, but would suggest that the extra noise is not as bad as some induction kits around; or maybe I'm just used to it, having had mine fitted for 18 months/27,000 miles now. The is a degree of induction roar on full throttle and a load of whooshing and hissing as low revs/light throttle (mostly when driving around town).

Test drives/assessments are welcome if anyone is interested (sorry Jonno, but I'm only coming up to Newcastle in August, you'll have probably bought one by then.;) ).

No, a PD TDI 2008 estate

I think I'll give it a try although I'll try and source one a bit cheaper than Toys4Cars...

Bahnstormer

It was my ears - they really started to ring after an hour or two on the motorway. So it had to go. Ive had tinnitus for years and most of the time I can ignore it but some days it really gets to you.

I understand and sympathise; I have it too although (I guess) only mildly. So far I'm able to put up with it. You do though make a valid point. :)

Bahnstormer.....do you recommended it on a PD Tdi. Significantly better than just a panel filter?????

Yes.

Significantly better than just a panel filter?????

Double Yes.

Panel filter will give 2-3bhp gain; 57i induction kit gives, IMHO, 10-15bhp gain.

I had my car RR'd twice last year producing 189bhp and 187bhp with K&N 57i (admittedly also running on Shell V-Power with Millers Diesel Sport 4 worth c. 5-8bhp as well).

You got any pictures/advice on install? So I can see how easy, etc? Just got to deliberate whether I wait for the manufacturer warranty to expire before I do it!!! Might Bluefin first.

Fitting instructions can be found on K&N's website as here;- 57-0618 - K&N 57i Series Kits, Performance Intake Kit it is pretty straight forward; nothing super tech.

Here is a pic of the finished product, complete with my DIY ducting/heat shielding;-

That looks easy enough.......what's the dealers view when you take it in for stuff? Are they ok?

They have (officially) not said anything in particular but (unofficially) are quite impressed with the install and improvements.
