Tyres Tyres Tyres!

Featured Replies

Chaps,

Having a bit of an inspection of tyres on Octy vRS over the weekend and reckon fronts are looking fairly worn. Have done 16.5K and they are the Continental Sport contacts. Do we reckon this is a fair mileage and also do we think Goodyear Eagle F1s are the way to go?! Also, is replacing in pairs ok or am I best to go for a all four (like bygone Scooby days!)

Cheers

Since I've never had more than 12,500 miles out of the front tyres on my Octy vRS 16,500 seems excellent, but obviously it depends on your driving style.

A lot of people on this forum swear by Goodyear Eagles, some like Pirelli P-Zeros, the Contis you have on are also higly recommended. Personally I favour Kumho KU-19s, a high performance assymmetric which is fairly durable and only

Thanx for the replies guys. Do we reckon 225/45/17 is definitely the way to go? and also am I cool just having a pair of these in the front with the "normal" size of tyres at back? Go on Phil, Im thinking Mytyres.net but put me out of my misery! ;)

Cheers,

Calum :)

225 is usually easier to find and as a result slightly cheaper. You can't put 225's on the front and 205's on the rear though as the back might break away if you push it too hard on the brakes. Having said that, I have driven around for 3000 miles in that combination and have suffered no ill side-effects. But in case plod stops you, it wasn't me who told you it is fine ;)

i will be at Trax with some guide prices for tyres....or pm me......or even do a search on my previous threads.....i`m not allowed to push my company ;)

Just to say a great thankyou to piv34uk (Phil) who obtained and fitted 2 OE continentals to my Octavia. All I can say what a great profesional outfit and an excellent perfect job was carried out by Phil. Well worth the journey. Know where I will be going for tyres from now on :D

Cheers

For a tyre I hope  it was a good price - especially for such good service - The two Superb one's that will need replacing next have a few thousand left so will probably be next year as I have no long trips planned for it at moment. I asume that Bridgestone Potenza 225/45/17 RE040 91Y rating tyres will be available for a while yet?

I enquired as I had great problems getting the last 2, when Paul said you had 2 in stiock I was amased. W rating I think are more popular

Again cant recommmend you enough - anyone woried about ther alloys Phil and his guys are for you, speaking to other customers in the waiting room they are impressed with the service also. As it happened one customer had just bought his Felicia Fun for new tyres - got his details to pass on to the Fun Club. - he wasn't a computer lover so no a Briskoda convert.

I ran 205 fronts with 225 rears for about 7,000 miles no problem. Plod shouldn't be a problem, AFAIK you can't mix sizes on the same axle, but different sizes front and rear are no problem, just look at big BMWs on factory tyres, 225 front, 245 rear.

Read my explanation again. Having bigger tyres on back is not the issue...
