Gasket changing

Featured Replies

I need to change the head gasket on 1.6 felicia. Will I need to replace the bolts at the same time? When looking at prices for the gasket I couldn't see any prices for replacement bolts for the 1.6 while I did find prices for the 1.3 bolts.

i changed mine, for the sake of £11 or so.

the bolts are designed to stretch once and once only.

in most of the cases you can buy a "head gasket replacement kit" with the bolts neccessary

yes you do need to change the bolts, you will need a spline tool to undo them too

are you sure they HAVE to be replaced? only i had a lot of preaching done to me about rovers stretch bolts, but you can re-use rover stretch bolts provided they havnt stretched too much ike 97mm from the face of the block to the inside of the head on the bolt i think.

not advising you to re-use them because i dont know, but maybe there is a limit? (i wouldnt re-use them if they where even near the limit)

Yes they HAVE to be replaced.

9 times out of 10 you might get away with it, but the tenth one will sheer off flush with the top of the block and it's an absolute bugger to get it out again, the bolts don't stretch as such but they do have a certain amount of springyness which goes once they have been torqued down which can lead to further future gasket faliures

for the sake of maybe £15 just buy a new set

15?? they where 40 for the rover!

i dont like rovers

lol payed £11 for a set for my 1.6
