Impossible Felicia Problem.......

Featured Replies

I have a 99 Felicia slxi with an impossible problem!!! no really!!!When driving along at 30 t' 40mph the engine looses interest, any gear usually cruising along very happily and then without drama or warning revs slowly drop to cut out??? have have a new battery fitted the RAC have checked the dizzy cap leads and alternator.

The worst part about it from a diagnostnostic point of view is after its sat for 3 or 4 minutes turn the key and it fires like normal first time. most of the journeys are cold and short. and I've driven a 200 mile round trip without it missing a beat......

Engine speed sensor?, it is located in the distributor. Fuel pump relay?

either speed sensor, or the coil is overheating

Hi there

Sounds abit like my problem, but here it picks up again. It goes for ages between it happening!!!

Maybe there is a pointer for you there.

Or, if this car still uses Kettering arc, maybe the condensor's starting to break down?

What's confusing me is the bit where it's intermittent!

Or, if this car still uses Kettering arc!

ketting arc (contact breakers) went out with the..... erm ark ken;)

these babies and pretty much all cars after about 1990 used all electronic ignition systems using a hall effect switch or similar (well, the ones that still use a dizzy anyhow)

the dissy merely acts as a mechanism to distribute the ht to the appropriate cylinder

normal idle for the car is 800rpm so no problem there,

when you say that the fan kick in early what do you mean? mine kicks in after 6-10 min

about 5 minutes but temp guage still cold.

about 5 minutes but temp guage still cold.

That sound pretty normal, but if the temperature is cold, you migh want to check your thermostat

the raditaror has a different temperature sensor that controls the radiator fan, it will kick in when the temperature is 60 ish the thing that keep you engine temperature level at 90 ish is the thermostat, so, no 90, blame the stat

:)Make sure the internals of the catalytic converter hasn't collapsed. It's not unknown for a piece of it to block the converters exit, the engine stops and the bit that blocked the exit drops back inside and off you go again.
