vRS Octavia Cruise control problem

Featured Replies

I bought a 54 plate Octavia in very nice condition with only a few and I mean a very few faults. The only one I haven't been able to fix although haven't really gone into it too deeply is the cruise control. I'm not aware if there is an indicator light on the dash when the slider is put into the "on" position so don't know if it works in anyway. I have obviously tried to use it but it will not "cruise". Any idea's?

No dash light on these cars so don't worry about that. First thought is brake light switch or clutch switch. Check if you have working brake lights, if not it's that switch. Not sure if a code scan will show it up but is always worth trying too. On an unlikely note it may not be activated if someone's tried fitting it themselves with out VAGCOM or similar.

I'd agree with Ian above, a quick check with VCDS/VAG-COM and you can see if the brake light switch has failed.

Even if my brake lights work then the switch could still be faulty? I will install vag-com on my laptop later and check it out. I already have an obd2 lead. Is the software straight forward enough to use?

As I recall the brake switch has 2 seperate functions. 1 is obviously to illuminate your brake lights and the other is to send information to the ECU. If it's faulty you may still get lights but if it's not talking to the ECU cruise will not work.

As for VAGCOM software I have never used it but I think it's pretty straightforward for fault reading and there's plenty of support through rosstech and these pages :o

I was right ;) I knew I'd read it somewhere

The switch is double action as in it operates the Brake Lights as well as a Signal to the ECU.

and the expected fault code is this 16955 - Brake Switch (F): Implausible Signal : P0571

Hope that helps you.
