service indicator

Featured Replies

Before anyone says "RTFM", I don't have one for my car, so I can't.

How do I reset the service indicator that comes up in the odometer display when I first start the car?

Thanks

Are you on fixed or variable servicing?

Fixed you need to hold the trip counter button down as you turn the ignition on.

Variable will need to be reset by VAGCOM or a trip to the dealer

I think it's fixed. How would I know? (it's a 54 plate Mk1 vRS...)

when you say the trip counter button, I take it you mean the one that zeroes the mileage?

How long do I hold it down for?

Iirc until the service light goes out.

I'd stick it on fixed as it's only really an oil change every 10k,which I assume you will be doing yourself:)

Theres a few other bits and pieces but tbh you can do those anytime around service time. Oil is main concern imo.

No doubt someone will tell me and you otherwise

You know it's on fixed because you've not put it on variable I think!

They can only be changed from variable to fixed not the other way. Mine was variable when I got it but I'm not a fan of letting the oil work up to 20k so I switched it to fixed.

Ian, I'm not a fan of cars going 20_000 without an inspection (never mind the oil where I agree too) either, but you can switch from fixed to variable as part of a service.

I stand corrected, I was sure it couldn't. Not that it matters to me as I would never switch it back. Variable = :dung:

Just too add it will be on fixed10k if you use the trip computer trick, it can be switched back to variable with vagcom or the dealer tools.

As said stick with 10k for oil at least

You could look at DGW's sticky at the top of the page, as stated all the manuals are here:

?koda Auto - Octavia Tour

I think the other way you can tell what the car was put on from the factory is by opening up the boot, in the left sids under the carpet is a white service sticker with lots of codes on it. On the bottom left hand side you should read either QG1 or QG2

QG1 means variable service

QG2 means fixed service

I may stand corrected on this.

Correct but it could have been switched to fixed or variable at some point during its life.

You do have an FM... it's just sat here waiting for you to collect it all. ;)

If you don't have VAG-COM, then I'm happy to do it for you if you want it doing that way or tell you if you're on fixed or variable.
