Minor Scratches to paintwork

Featured Replies

Probably been asked many times before and I apologise if it has but can anyone recommend a good way to cover minor scratches to the bodywork?

My car is Storm Blue Metallic and it has scratches all along both sides and a few on the tailgate. They are not deep but enough to see and take the effect off the car (looks like the previous owner enjoyed country lanes too much).

Oh and can anyone recommend something to get the bumpers & trims back to black rather than a fading grey?

Any help would be appreciated.

Are the scratches through the paint?

If not then I'd suggest using scratch X on them if you get some good weather, then covering it with a decent wax.

If there are lots of them, it might be worth paying a pro to do a full paint correction on the car.

If it is through the paint and you don't want to pay somebody, then clean the car well, find a wax crayon that is the correct blue and once you've plolished the affected panels, fill the lines with a couple of layers of wax crayon.

Once you've done this and let it go hard, which won't take long, then put a layer of a hard wearing wax such as collinite 476 over the top, taking car not to rub too hard when removing it such that you remove the wax.

If you can post up some pics then that would be helpful?

Also can you feel the scratchs if you run your nail over them?

there are many ways to remove miner scratches from your car,

or you can try to remove the scratches your self by hand using somthing along the lines of auto glym super resin polish or dodo juice need for speed both of theese have micro abrasives in them plus will leave behind a nice wax coating,

Autoglym Super Resin Polish - Buy online from i4detailing.co.uk

Dodo Juice Need for Speed Cleaner Wax - Buy online from i4detailing.co.uk

the third option is to use a machine polisher, but i would't recamend that unless you have some prior knowlage of polisher usage.

in this case you can use a polishing pad and a light polish there are hundreds to choose from so if you would like some advice on these please ask,

there is also another option and that is to mask the scratches instead of removing them, you could do this buy using a product like bilt hamber auto balm,

As baker 21 said put some pics up, as if they are only light you will be able to fix them with scratchX rather than just mask them with the SRP.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the late reply but been away.

I will try and get some pictures up now the weather is better if I can figure out how to do them and reduce them in size :D

In the meantime the scratches aren't too deep but on some you can feel them if you run your nail across them especially the one over the wheel arch.

Shame the person who had it before me didn't give her some TLC which was apparent both inside and out when I purchased her

Paintwork can be 'bought back to life' mate so there is hope no matter what the condition of the car..........
