Wipers and Service Reset?

Featured Replies

I've recently sold my 54-plate Octy Elegance DSG to a friend's son, when I upgraded to a Superb II. He loves the car, not the least, I suspect, because just before he got it I had a four-year service carried out on it!

He says that his only niggle is the auto-wipe not being sensitive enough. I seem to remember that I had this trouble just after the previous service. It was OK before the service and I didn't use it afterwards, so I wonder if it's got anything to do with the "reset" that occurs during the service.

I've looked through other threads on the wipers, but couldn't find anything similar. Any ideas, please?

Sounds doubtful that a service caused this, mine is pretty much useless too. Four settings of sensitivity for autowipe, yet some days I can have it on the highest and it couldn't tell I was driving into a monsoon, and other days I have it on the lowest and its turning itself on when its a dry day. The auto wipe annoys me, I am constantly fiddling with the sensitivity but after nearly 3 months of driving two different octavias I have yet to find a setting I can be happy to stick with.

I wish they left in an intermittant setting, instead of stalk down just bouncing back up after one stroke (unless you hold it).

Does the basic model have autowipe? Is it is possible to replace the stalk with one that has an intermittant setting instead?

I know there are loads that don't like the Autowipe, but the point of my question was that mine was working perfectly before the service, but now it isn't?

  • 1 month later...

I find that 90% of the time mine is TOO sensitive (even on bottom setting) as it wipes when there's 3 drops of water on the screen and smears into a right mess.

Luke, did you notice a difference between triggger levels between our cars?

If you have VAG-COM or somebody near you does look for a fault code 00888, that is a failure of the adjuster on the stalk and gives symptoms similar to yours (minus the service timed behaviour obviously)
