My gearbox went the otherday on my 2003 fabia, took it too dealer and they quoted me 1500 to have gearbox and clutch replaced, Im thinking of buying a second hand gearbox and having this fitted at mechanics. how much would it cost to have it fitted and are there any specifications i need when buying gearbox.

why would anyone need those details?

recently quoted 6 hours labour to change the gearbox in my Octy vRS..

(about £240 plus VAT as a ball park figure...)

6 hours, blimey, that include a lunch break and a kip?

£400 for a recon box, 4 hours labor about £200, clutch kit £90, so £690+VAT would be a sensible price. Possibly cheaper if you could source a box from a breakers yard.

how do you find out what box it is

Post up the model of Fabia you have, so the engine size, fuel type (petrol/diesel)

All Fabias have a 5 speed gearbox except for the vRS, but only with the right information can the guys like Lummox and others in the know give you the right advise
