fabia rear vented discs

Featured Replies

any know for sure if a set up calipers/carriers/discs from golf anniversary/octy vrs will fit the fabia please.....

Pretty sure it will not. There's only 1 person to my knowledge who has put bigger brakes on the back and they were like £1000+ tarox things. They're not needed as the backs only do about 5% of the braking, so the best thing to do is get uprated pads/discs fior the stock setup. I have the cheapest pads & discs on the back I could find for this reason. Totally different opinion for the front though.

As per Jason's post - waste of money IMHO - the stock brakes hardly do anything, even with ESP kicking in, they still hardly get used.

The fronts can do with upgrading for definite, and that is very worthwhile, be it the 312mm which fits under the stock 16" wheels of the vRS, or bigger still ;)

ive got full set though front/rear and wanted to do the lot...

I can imagine you'd want to do it ;)

The problem is the rears are likely (not 100% on this sorry) to not fit on properly, the front ones should fit just fine though :)

ive bought full set ..painted them all..new discs etc....:(

Hopefully Ross or Stu will be about later, to tell you the good or bad news. Fingers crossed :)

Golf uses a similar rear beam, so dont see why they shouldn't bolt straight on if you really want to do it, best option is to jack it up and try the disc/caliper and wheel on. Only ahalf hour job, as to try them you don't need to disconnect the old caliper

Soz - another knowledgeable person I forgot to mention hehe ;)

im pretty technically minded and done my own cars for 30yrs and find it hard to believe rear brakes only do 5% of the brakin....

only prob is alex the rear disc backing plate folds over the disc so the bigger wudnt go on without the lip being cut off or mayb octy/golf backing plate being used...

The rear brakes on the fabia do very little indeed. Wouldn't like to quote an exact percentage but it's almost certainly not even near 30% in my opinion & experience.

The swap is a common one done on mk4 golfs which in std form use the same rear setup as the fabia, so cnat be very difficult to do. May be easier just to remove the stone guards? I did look into it but decided it was easier just to keep the drilled and grooved rear discs I already had fitted.

I still have a brand new set of 256mm vented discs sat in my shed!

k alex cheers for ya help.

All the rear brakes do on the Fabia is start binding up and winding the handbrake cable the wrong way, and therefore causing their owner much grief

I can believe it, considering how nose heavy the vrs is and how much it dives, it wouldn't take much to lock the rear wheels up.

The diving can be helped with Eibach/Konis or coilovers - and it sure makes it feel much safer/controlled :)

Eibach/Konis fsd's coming this week with full blue flame de cat and jabba rarb...

You'll enjoy the difference for sure

cheers hope so..wud still like to fit the bigger vented rears...then st3 upgrade next...

I'd have a go, I havent bothered personally, but you never know, if it fits it will look great as it would fill the gaps much more I'd have thought :)

Standard cars I wouldn't touch the rear brakes. Lowered on Eibachs etc.... There is far less pitching/weight transfer and the rear brakes appear to want to do something.

I've seen a number of potential upgrades including the ECS rear kit with bells/disks @ £500+, utilising the standard Audi TT 225 etc rear caliper.

However I think even a simple upgrade to say a 280(ish) mm non-vented disk would suffice for most/any road work.

Anything else is likely to be window dressing unless you're already looking to upgrade from the 312s to Brembos or similar.
