Up to date satellite images?

Featured Replies

Is there anywhere that has up to date satellite images?

Google is about 4 years out, and Microsoft live around 3.

Google is much newer than that in a lot of areas, same with MS live. it seems to depend on the area you want. As an example the 3d images on MS live of where I work were taken last year, and some of googles satalite imagery of southern spain was taken last year.

The latest version of google earth gives you the date of the image along the bottom as you zoom in.

Quiet often they are using the latest image available. Where I work we use satalite imagery a lot, and even the ones we use are 4 years of so old.

Thanks.

Is google earth newer than the images at their map pages, or are these the same?

Well, I've been struggling to date the sat images on google maps of familar areas but I have figured out that the car on my Dad's drive is his old mkV golf, which dates the pic between mid 2004 (04 plate from new) and around mid/late 2006 (56 plate GTI golf bought new)

My car isn't sat where I live now, so not sure where it could have been. It is not at work either...

As said, it depends where you're looking at. For some places, Live is better, sometimes it's Google.

As I understand it, Google Earth and Google Maps use the same mapping.

They could well have done your house and work addresses at different times, and then just stitched the imagery together. So your home during a weekday, and your workplace on a weekend, for example.

Or you were on the way to work at the time; have you tracked along your usual route?! :)

From reading various sources of info (not NSA :o) the only way to get more recent images than Google Earth etc is to pay for them. (FWIW 192.com apparently have very recent and very close-up London aerial views.)

The map of my area is nearly 4 years old (june 2005)

Multimap & Firefox are just as bad in my area - a max of four years out of date
