Fabia Steering angle sensor again - sorry

Featured Replies

I'm having prob's with my power steering. Following Vag-com fault noticed;

Control Module Part Number: 6Q0 423 156 G

Component and/or Version: Lenkhilfe 0004

Software Coding: 00110

Work Shop Code: WSC 00000

1 Fault Found:

01290 - Reference Voltage: Steering Assist

29-00 - Short to Ground

I've checked plug on pump for water etc - all clean & dry, two wires (black & red I think) show short so presumably this is at sensor end.

Haynes states sensor is under steering wheel whereas vrstu's site shows it to be at base of steering column where it joins steering rack. Are there two sensors?

My car is 2001 estate 16v comfort with ASR.

Any ideas before I buy new sensor?

Thanks

The sensor that usually goes is at the base of the column, though I doubt that this may be the problem. In VCDS go into 44 (engine running), then 08 and look at the measuring blocks, the first field of channel 001 or 002 gives the angular velocity of the steering wheel, turn the steering wheel and check that the readout is representative of your steering wheel input.

The last car I saw with this fault was cured by replacing the pump.

Thanks fordfan,

I've just checked as you say with the following results;

001 12-14V 4-60A (when turning wheel) 17C ON

002 0.0 deg/s (never alters) 1306/min 1331/min 4-60A (when turning wheel)

The pump is working generally but on occasions (when parallel parking) no power steering.

My MOT is due end of month will it fail? with light on?

John
