Engine oil pressure warning light

Featured Replies

Hi there,

After having everything checked on my 02 Fabia 1.4 I still have a warning sound and flashing engine oil pressure warning light. Have had new oil filter fitted. Is my last option changing the oil pump and, if so, is this an expensive part? can I get one second-hand?

Thank you

From your previous posts you have the 8 valve MPi? I have seen a few faulty oil pressure switches on this engine, the tell tale is that when it is unplugged there is oil in the plug. The oil pressure switch has a single wire going to it and is to the passenger side of the oil filter.

Hi,

Yes that's me. Originally I thought it was the steering but everything checked ok. We found that the person we bought the car from had "blacked" out the oil warning light on the dash. We removed the glass cover and managed to clean the patch of, what looked like, glue from the oil symbol. We will have a go at looking at the oil pressure switch and see if this does the trick.

Thanks for the advice :)

Have changed swith but problem is still there - do we need to change the oil pressure sensor and if so what does it look like and where is it????

I know it's a daft question, but have you actually had the oil pressure tested?

On the 1.4 8v mpi it should be to the right of the oil filter and will have a very obvious wire connector leading to it. It's sort of like a rather large bolt with a wire connector on the front of it.

Yes, we've had the oil pressure tested and it was ok. I think we've had just about everything done except changing the oil pump. A silly question but is the oil pressure switch the same thing as the oil pressure sensor?

is the oil pressure switch the same thing as the oil pressure sensor?

Yes.

What do you think we should try next - all the tests say that it is ok just the light keeps on flashing and I get the warning beep. Driving us crazy!!!

If the oil pressure is high enough then I'd think the pump was working. Have you had all the wiring checked to make sure the signal is getting from the sensor to the ECU or wherever it needs to get to?

Not sure but it is another option. One other thing the garage suggested was to let it run for a couple of weeks to give the sensor chance to work/register and for the warning light to clear. I still like the car though!

Sensor register, erm no.

Since they come on instantly they will either go out instantly or log a fault code that then needs to be properly cleared.

No idea which the fabia has, but if it doesn't clear instantly it isn't going to clear itself.

I'd still look at the wiring,

Have just checked the wiring .......and, still the same problem! I think I am going to have to give in and take it to a Skoda garage!
