£200 for it ,can you fix the selectors

i am thinking of selling it if i cannot fix mot 5 month end of may

any help please i have taken to garage but he has not looked at it

thought i would just post this message to see what you all think:thumbup::shock::read:

gear linkage probarbly broke or slipped? might just need setting back up, but if they quoted 250 then there is either something seriously wrong or they are making a monkey of you

a monkey most likely will try a different garage thanks for the reply

no problem!

just dont go to a big place like mr tyre/kwikfit etc go to a small garage like you normally find on a little industrial estate for the simple reason they are always far cheaper, and don't pick faults to make money from you (most the time)

Gear linkage seems to be somewhat of a weak point on these cars, especially high mileage/high city mile ones. I would check the linkage first - it would seem to make sense given 3 and 4 are still useable. If you lay on the ground and reach under you can grab the bottom of the gearstick and wiggle it and see if anything obvious is lose or wrong.

Where abouts are you located? Cause I have a good box on my dead Felicia, might need some new bushes as the stick feels a little wobbly.

£250 sounds about right for any garage.

Strip and rebuild of the gearbox, clutch etc.....

A new clutch for my Felicia was £130 fitted and thats only cause I'm friends with my mechanic. If you've ever seen how it's done/helped out in a garage then you'll understand it all and how easy/complex some jobs are.

You might get the £250 bill cheaper by shopping around other garages or if you know a mechanic.

The only time you'll be made a monkey of is if someone takes your money to fix a problem and the problem is still there.

or if they feed you bananas and lies to make some money out of you.

for example, if the gear linkage has broke/ come loose and they rebuild the box.. then i beleive they just ripped you of about 200 quid

and my clutch was £138 with 12,000 mile warranty

because im a retard

why would you bother to rebuild a skoda gearbox?? just chuck it away and buy one from a breakers yard, £100 max

if it were 1 3 & 5 gear i would suggest a dodgy linkage but 2nd gear... when you say 'went pop' what do you mean?

my gearbox sounded like it popped i dont have a radio in my car so that is what it sounds like

there is loads of travel in my gear stick its like a mixing bowl spoon

i live in leeds

many thanks for all the reply's going to a few garages on saturday to get a proper price

there is loads of travel in my gear stick its like a mixing bowl spoon

That sounds very much like a linkage problem. I wonder if you can't get 1, 2, 5 because the gearstick makes contact with the centre console? (If fitted to your model). If this is the case whipping that out might get you the gears back.

Yours isn't a black one/blackline model is it? I followed one in Leeds Centre a few weeks ago which headed off the Armley Gyratory towards the Bramley area :)

right area but my car is green thanks will have a look

update removed centre console and what do you know i have gears but will still have to get fixed but better that it was

 you'll probably just need two plastic bits that cost pennies at a dealers which go on a bolt at the bottom of the gearstick. Would probably be best to get the appropriate bolt as well and an M8 nyloc nut. Plus replacing the rubber packing on the steady rod probably wouldn't be a bad idea too (this helps stop the gearstick rattling). If you'll be DIYing I can try fish out the part numbers for you.

But at least it seems it isn't going to cost anywhere near £250 now anyway

thanks for the info and the part numbers would be great

Have just checked the part numbers I put here http://briskoda.net/favorit-felicia-fun-forman/sloppy-gear-stick-felicia/116172/#post1428773 against Online spareparts catalogue for AUDI/Volkswagen/Skoda/Seat and all are the same as on the favorit. For those with two different part numbers the earliest is the correct one. Haynes manual describes the procedure for removing the linkage entirely, but you may just get away with undoing the bolt at the bottom of the gearstick and replacing the 2 nylon bushes if all you have is excessive side-to-side movement.
