Faster than?

I just wondered can the Fabia 1.4 16v 75hp beat the 1.2 HTP off the line and In general acceleration? It is the Automatic but the Manual 1.4 75hp offered for a while only in comfort trim's did 0-60 in about 13 seconds. The 1.4 75hp Auto on paper does 0-60 in 17.3 and a top speed of 103, but obviously these things are affected by so many things, also would a 75hp Manual Beat a 100hp off the line since it offers it's power lower down?

I drove a 1.2 polo for a month while between furbies  and I have to say its best driving was off the line - You could almost get the wheels to spin, and it was very buzzy. It was just trying to get going on motorways/NSL roads which was a pain with the 1.2 under the bonnet - the 1.4 would excel here, even with an auto box.

I did a few 0-60s in the polo 1.2, and never got better than about 18 or 19 seconds, but this was because it was quick to 30, but took feckin ages to get from 30 to 60.

I also think the 100bhp would kick ass over the 75hp, whatever the box - its quite quick. :D

I'm not very up on all these tech specs, but the 75hp (Lifted from the Octy) produces 93 lbs/ft @ 3800 RPM and 75hp @ 5000 RPM

The 1.4 100hp also produces 93 lbs/ft but @ 4400 RPM and 100hp @ 6000 RPM. I asked a dealer why they used the 75hp in the Auto and In the Octy instead of the 100hp and he said because they are more Elastic and don't need to be thrashed to provide good performance, So off the line why would the 100hp Kick ass, It's 100hp would only be Noticable at higher speeds, Right?

Only thing I can think of is keeping the 16v in the last 2K RPM of the rev range will result in more power / speed being dealt out than the auto. I guess kicking ass was an extreme term to use, but as its a lot quicker to 60, I reckon it would also be a lot quicker to 30 as well. Its just a matter of using the rev range in the 16v 100bhp engine to produce the best acceleration. Steve might know better about how this all works, as I've never driven one.

How much energy does the Auto waste?

Not sure it wastes it - I think its known than an auto box is always less economical and gives less performance than a manual box and clutch. I dunno why they don't use the 100bhp with the auto box - I reckon that would be a good option. I guess they de-tune it so there's less power at the top of the rev range, where auto boxes rarely travel in day to day driving.

Nope, they couldn't do it, Superminis are spposed to be small and economical cars, Take a look at this,

1.4 75hp Auto:

Urban 27.4 [10.3]

Extra Urban 47.9 [5.9]

Combined 37.7 [7.5]

CO2 Emissions g/km* 180

It would be incredibly uneconomical with a 100hp!!
