Vag-com 16985 - Check sum Error

Featured Replies

This all sounds like a bad remap to me and I'd be talking to Performance Driven in terms of small claims court if they refuse to fix. I don't know anyone who's had a checksum error unless it's a bad map. Are they saying this just happens on 1.8T engines anyway, regardless of map? Because that's not right either.

Good luck with it, but they really should have sorted it out by now.

This thread and their shoddy customer service equals plenty of lost sales

Andy said they have seen it on Revo / Standard / Other maps.

I've seen it mentioned on other forums and it does semi seem tied to APR, or at least more common. Two examples below:

My mate had this exact same problem with the exact same remap and it was also after a year or so.

Awesome GTI just reflashed it, i'm sure of it? I'll ask him this weekend but you'll probably have something sorted by then

The check sum error is pretty common to the 1.8T APR maps. When people say they have that error now, I just say APR to them and they say yes! I know of two other members on here with it. One who has an APR map, and one who had the free APR trial.

Also, APR and REVO hate eachother, so they will always slag eathother off. REVO started out life as stolen APR software re-named, when some guys left APR and setup their own company straight away. Plenty of reading if you care: http://www.goapr.com/images/Revo/UK/

Just find an excuse to visit Manchester soon and get Awesome to sort you out directly. PD just sound like they are fobbing you off because they don't care. I know alot of people just live with it, but I understand you wanting it sorted. I know I would.

Interesting Bodge :)

Manchester is 330miles away from me I'm afraid so don't think I'll be 'passing by' any time soon unfortunately.

Andy (awesome) gave me a voicemail, he's spoken to Performance driven and hopefully they'll ring me this afternoon to sort it out. Props to Andy from Awesome-gti for ringing me back and getting this sorted, excellent support.

Will Awesome do this for free?

Will Awesome do this for free?

I don't believe so, although he did mention something about "how long the maps been on" but I've had mine on around 4 years so I didn't think to question that.

Awesome said they normally charge an hours labour, so £50~

My APR stage 2 was on 13 months (after having it mapped at Awesome) when i started having the same problem.

I just clear it and check for other codes every now and again as i think it was very steep to charge for clearing this since i had the map with them.

That's why i haven't had mine cleared.

It is a bit steep and unfair in my eyes.

They didn't ring by the way.... maybe tomorrow eh?

Well this was resolved in the end last year.

Drove the car home tonight and guess what? Yes, the error is back on with the exact same code!

Fed up.

Got this code on my car, had an APR trial map couple of years ago and code appeared about year ago, not affected the way the car runs and not paying an hours labour to have it removed when it is a known fault.

Does it not annoy you always having the engine management light on? What happens if another fault occurs.... you won't know about it?

Somewhere in my cars past the LED for the EML was removed so I had no annoying light looking at me. I have since had the code removed at Awesome who are now able to remove this, mine was replaced with Revo a 'stock' map, I have also spoken to Jaymd who switched to Revo stage 2 from APR stage 2 during the amnesty that Awesome ran a while back, and we are both currently P0601 free, Don't know how far you are from Awesome but it may be worth either visiting or talking to them again. Hope you get sorted soon.

I was tempted to ring Awesome again and see why it's come back when they claimed there was a "fix" for it last time it was done, apparently there was an updated map... I have a feeling Performance Driven simply put the stock map on, then re-flashed with the same map to clear it rather than update the map- I could be wrong though!

  • 1 month later...

I would not have put up with that for 4 years. Thats not right when all the evidence points to a map issue from APR and unless ive got the wrong end of the stick thats also confirmed by APR themselves and Awesome :o
