Silverstone (f1)

Featured Replies

I've been an F1 fan since the early 80's when i was a nipper, but i have never taken the opportunity to go to Silverstone and actually watch and take in the atmosphere. This year though, for valentines day, my wonderful fiancée has bought me tickets for the Sunday to go and watch. :D

The tickets are just the general admission tickets, so i was wondering if any of you who have been before would have any suggestions of where exactly would be the best place to watch from as obviously i've only got the cheap tickets, my access/viewing position is going to be limited. A friend of mine, went many years ago and he said he never even saw a car! just the very tops of the air intakes as they went by......... so, any suggestions of where to position myself to avoid dissapointment would be appreciated

First, get there Very very very very early, we used to stand at abbey curve or Woodgate.

Oooh , now that brings back memories :D

I went to Brand Hatch for the Europian round many many years ago

Big accident on the first bend of the first lap

jacques laffite broke his ankles , IIRC

Nigel Mansel`s car was a bit poorly too

But they restarted the race , and he won

His first race win..... that was back in 1985

Then in 1986 when it moved to Silverstone , I went again

Then again and then went every year up to 1992

In 1992 it was fantastic!!!!

I was one of the idiots who raded the lap when Mansell won , and he went on to win the championship that year too :D

What a superb weekend they used to be

Not cheap at all though.... :( but cracking weekend and used to take the kids with us

You will enjoy it , I know I always did

will have to dig out all the old pics now!!!

It was the British GP at Brands in 1986 when Laffite broke his ankles and Mansell won the race in the spare car which was set up for Piquet. Mansell passed Piquet in front of us at Pilgrims drop. 1987 was the Silverstone race where Mansell pitted for tyres and passed Piquet at Stowe, the two Williams drivers lapped everyone that day, with Senna coming in third. I was at Abbey that day. The next year 1988 Mansell driving a non turbo Williams Judd came second to Senna in his Mclaren, it rained all day. The next year the prices went through the roof so it's been the TV ever since.

Oooh blimey , It was that many years ago , I missed a few out  , I know it was an age ago
