stereo recommendations with aux in

Featured Replies

I'd like to use my ipod in the car without an fm transmitter.

Does the standard sympony radio have any aux-in attachments? It currently has a CD changer, can I tap into the wires for this with the ipod?

If this is not possible, does anyone have any stereo recommendations that'll allow me to easily plug and play the ipod?

cheers

andrew

I have ordered one of these and will be here tomorrow so will give feedback on it when fitted. Finally got fed up with the jumpy CD changer

Feedback would be great - My CD changer works fine but as my boot is always full I can't get to change CDs easily.

This should work for you and allow you to use your CD changer too :thumbup:Skoda iPod Interface 8 pin ISO Connector*::*SKODA*::*XCarLink

Does that definitely work with the Symphony system fitted to the Mk.1? I was under the impression when I looked previously that there were some issues with the way it worked (100 tracks max etc). Has anybody on here actually used it? Whilst the stock setup isn't the most powerful, it's far neater and nicer to look at than the Alpine tat I have in there just now. It means I could also use the CD changer again...

I got one of those cheap cassette tape things that plugs into my iPod and then you put the cassette in the player - but might order one of those cables if Lex doesn't have any problems with it on the standard Symphony HU

I recently bought this: Car Audio Direct - Clarion DUZ388RMP - Double DIN

Customised the display to match the stock interior lights. It's got aux in at the front and a usb at the back (off a cable); so you can use either a usb pen or connect your ipod to it. Both can be controlled from the front display.

Does that definitely work with the Symphony system fitted to the Mk.1?

I hope so, however there is a full money back guarantee

From their site it would seem to be ok for over 100.

Quote - If you have many songs on your playlist, the digits following the colon may flash between two different numbers. For example, if the 285th song on the playlist was being played, the digits would flash 2 followed by 85 since there are only two digits available.

I agree, stock stereo is not too bad depending on what you want. Very few aftermarkets look as good as the OEM equipment and thats why I am reluctant to change it.

Received it today and took about 20 minutes fiddling to make sure it worked and then fitted it proper. Only negative is they provide you with 2 stereo keys which are too wide for the Symphony HU, fortunately I have my own keys so that wasn't an issue.

Having a brief play it seems you pick your playlist/album with the ipod but you can forward tracks and fast forward with HU controls.

Bit of confusion as the HU display displays CD4 TR2 when not plugged in and CD1 TR1 when plugged in to ipod. By their instructions it is supposed to say something else. Still have CD changer control as per their instructions however I have no discs in there now and doubt I will use it.

Control box has about 3ft of lead so gives you options for mounting and ipod lead is about the same length. For the earth I took the rubber bung off the back of stereo slid the ring connector on and replaced bung....job done.

I have used double sided carpet tape and mounted it in the cubby box feeding the cable through the top as there is holes for easy routing.

Well happy :D

Is that a iPhone? If so is it 3G and does it charge?

Is that a iPhone?

Yes it is

If so is it 3G?

No but they are virtually the same anyway. 3G has better internet connectivity and a better speaker although I use headphones to listen anyway...and now the car too

does it charge?

Yes it does

Thanks very much for the write-up,

Do you need to set up playlists or can you play what you want via ipod controls?

Best get the credit card out

You can set up playlists and I think you select them through the 1 - 6 buttons but I have just been using ipod controls to select albums. I am still using the next/last track and forward/rewind buttons on the HU though as it is easier.

the adapter arrived this morning and it's connected and working fine. Took me a little while to get the radio out because one of the clips had jammed.

CD changer is now unused as the ipod adapter uses the same slot in the back of the radio. Can control the ipod via the forward and back buttons on the radio, also can get playlists by pressing the buttons 2-6 (button 1 allows you to play anything on your ipod.

been very impressed except with the bulky nature of the control box and the lead trailing around the dash, other than that I'd recommend it

Thanks,

The reason i asked is apparently the 3g charging is slightly different, so you can get some things that charge the original iPhone, but not the 3g.

Still, I note that link you posted has an option for the 3g - perhaps an email is in order....

Looks good anyway - have you got a cradle/holder? I'm struggling to find on that isn't £40 (which seems expensive for a piece of plastic) or looks rubbish.

They do 2 options and both charge the 2G, the one that charges the 3G is £4.99 more but I went for that one as I figure one day I will upgrade

I am using this iphone holder CAR CHARGER WINDSCREEN HOLDER MOUNT FOR APPLE IPHONE 3G on eBay, also, Other Mobile Phone Accessories, Mobile Phone Accessories, Mobile Home Phones (end time 04-Mar-09 05:59:21 GMT) cheap and holds the phone well.
