I'm going to look at a VRS tomorrow...

Featured Replies

Hi,

First post here so be gentle-ish!

Going to look at a 2005 VRS tomorrow:

Anything particular I should look out for. The chap didn't think it had the larger brakes, and I doubt it's been remapped as apparently the previous owner was a teacher.

Should I ask about cambelt changes etc?

Cheers

Ollie

Should have had a cambelt at 60,000 miles/ 4 years so should have been done (bet it hasn't)

Check the rear carpets for wetness.

On a test drive listen for a knocking from the front wheels when travelling over bumps at low speeds (bushes)

how`d u know?! lol

Someone's fitted the trim out of the limited edition SE model too.

Nah that's a custom job, the seats have a vRS emblem stitched rather than a number ;)

Cheers for the replies.....I'm not too concerned about the seller...

He said that he used to have a garage but packed it in and is now just doing a 9 - 5 job and as such only has a couple of cars left at his own house. Going about 10-11ish.

Do you reckon it's a retro fit as I haven't seen a blue trim before?

It will have been a retrim, quite a few have had it done by the likes of Seat Surgeons.

I take if you live in the south leicestershire area then Oliver? :D I used to have an LE8 postcode when I lived in Kibworth.

That retrim is definitely not Ltd edition, but as mentioned before, a retrim. The previous owner would have paid circa £800 for it too, so if you fancy leather it's a good way of getting it rather than getting a retrim done yourself. :)

As mentioned, as long as the cambelt was done at 60,000 miles then it's probably a really good buy. No warranty but then my car is almost 8 years old now and still going well.

Yes I do! I wondered how you knew but then remembered the link!!

Went an had a look, its a decent car. Cambelt hasn't been done....and the oil is black - is that normal? Tickover seemed high but I'm not sure what's the standard...it was about 1000. Body condition was reasonable....quite a few scuffs but no major dents.

The trim though - it IS from an SE...303.

*gulp*

Just seen another thread...303 had police tape on it...just hope it wasn't a fatality :( :(

Ahh well proved wrong again :o Should have realised as soon as Jason agreed with me

Or not :P

Black oil is normal.

Tickover, mine is at about 850 rpm, 1000+ sounds high and would only expect to see it when first starting from cold for the first few mins.

Had a look at the auotrader ad why does he list it as having 69,000 miles and he has a picture of the speedo with 65,000 on it.

The price of a cambelt varies on where you take it to e.g. a skoda dealer or independent but the cambelt kit + waterpump alone from Skoda was £120ish when I did mine. If you buy it deffo get the waterpump done as the impeller decides it's had enough of life and falls off the shaft

Seems a resonable price tho

Cheers, when I had the cambelt done I would do as much as possible then to (hopefully) reduce the labour costs.

The speedo shows that as he is currently using the car so it has added miles since the photographs.

I really do like the car but am quite concious of those seats...wonder what I'd get for 'em!

Is that because of the car they came from?

I'm not an expert but have seen them on ebay etc for about £800 but seat surgeons do the cards and seats for that and looks like they sold before for £550

Thanks for all the replies.

This to let you know I haven't bought this car. The car itself was ok but the bodywork wasn't the best. Chap who is selling it is very helpful.

Anyway, I'm off to look at a bloomin' SE tomorrow!! Anything I should look out for in particular with these or just as above? Around 20k on the clock so are we looking towards the end of the brake discs etc?

All the best

Discs really depend on how it's been driven. My MK4 Golf did 96,000 miles on what I believe original rear discs(Had the car from 44,000 I never replaced them)!

I'd say more 30 maybe 40k

Good price with the leather and silver was extra.

Just come across this thread, its my car for sale.

Firstly, thanks Ollie for your kind coments about the seller/me.

If anyone is concerned about the seats I can supply the reciept from the breakers yard in Stockport that i bought them from. They did indeed come from SE number 303, I saw the car, I even have a pic of it, it had been lightly rolled.

Not to keen on having my private address on here, so can the moderater please remove it.

Thanks to all who have said the price is reasonable, funny that I still have it, maybe if I pay for the cambelt to be done it would help.

Might end up keeping it anyway, have my last three cars for sale from my packed up business, will keep the one that Im left with.

Here is a pic of poor old 303 in the breakers yard, it wasn't that badly damaged, door cards were still intact so would have thought the driver was ok.

Not sure where someone got the figure of £550?

I paid £700 for them. Are we talking about the same car?

Regarding the police tape, we used to put it on when a car that was off the road so that people would see the tape and not call it in, or stop to help. I know this as I was a police officer for 16 years, so that should clear up any questions about whether I am a genuine chappy.

Hi chap cheers for putting that picture up, I was just a bit wary as I came back and searched forums and saw 'em talking about a fatality!

Just to let you know we've ended up buying an SE now but thanks for letting us take it for a spin, don't think it will be around for long with that interior

Well done mate, I reckon the SE cars will hold thier value really well as the new model VRS is a long way off apparantly.

Thanks again for your kind comments about me, and all the best with the SE.

I have owned loads of really nice/exiting cars over the years and I got to say Im well impressed with these little Fabia VRS's
