Grill ideas

Featured Replies

a few weeks ago my bonnet catch disconnected itself behind the grill and I had to "remove" my mesh grill to access the catch and open the bonnet.

My question is, what do I do now?

(a) - replace the mesh grill as it was

(B) - go back to standard

© - manufacture my own diamond style grill from the bits I didn't break (!!)

(d) - buy something ready made

Opinions and pics of other people's efforts would be very much appreciated.....

Really? Nobody has any pictures??

I think most people have either done what you had done or gone milotec. My Milotec looks a little diffferent as I have stuck the Skoda badge on it. I thought the badgeless look didn't suit silver yet wanted the same mesh as my lower grilles. Here's a pic for reference. Will take a frontal shot tomorrow if you want.

do what I did mate.

get a std grill and cut the vents off and put it all back together with the addition of some ripspeed mesh from halfords.

youll need to glue the silver bit bake on and the mesh needs moulding to the shape of the std grill as its not flat.

ill see if I have any pics of mine in bits.

LEX: notice you got the mk4 wipers, do you have ne probs wi the drivers side one? mine leaves a big patch untouched on the return wipe?

soz to hijack. also I am thinkin of goin back to the std bumper grills as the middle one has a few minor paint flakes from the gritters!

I think the std ones in the sides will look better on a black car as it will break up the big holes

if anyone gets that lol

billy

ill try upload more pics.

Well Billy if you go back to standard grills and stick with them id be interested in buying yours off you mate he he

Cheers

Dave

I would kill for the middle lower one....

I'm thinking about cutting the middle lower slats out and replacing with mesh but can't find any with big enough holes.

lol cheers, I am a bit worried if I go back as ill need to take the brackets off too and i wont be able to put them on again.

mind i think the std ones go better on a black car but the milotec ones go even better on the other colours?

when I am back home i gonna give it a shot. Ill put you on my mates list and let you know ;-)

I am on course in glasgow for next 3 week lol done C+E, Telehandler, now on ADR then HIAB, Forklift, both kinds. Ill post pics to see what the general thoughts are lol

I like that one a lot - I cut the Skoda badge out of my chrome insert so I could mesh it

o017.jpg,

Does this look like a BBQ??

Billy, you can refit the milotec backets with the Black Mastic, as like what they came with. Same stuff as the body shop mastic that can be repainted.(let it go off for a day before fitting grills)

I have my standard grills somewhere?

I will be replacing the front grill this weekend, just painted up a Milotec one. Show pics when done.

Mark.

I too have been looking to see what I can do with the front grills, and wish it was just as easy to do as in 'Paint', as these are the idea's that I have come up with so far....

Standard:-

normal_DSCF2973.JPG

Then I thought of removing the badge and the 2 slats on the bottom corner vents, which the grill mentioned above at 'SuperSkoda' would be great and save me a lot of work - still might chrome the outsides tho....

Then, changing the standard slats and honeycombe to the diamond type grill as seen on Bentley's etc.....

What do you think???

The Bentley look is not for me!

Noooo. The honeycomb definately not.

Miltotec Grills are a good way to go. Like the idea of your option 2.

Number 2 for me too

That 3rd option looks dreadful IMHO

Ian

The 3rd one was just for a laugh really, as just playing about - my thoughts are the second one, but leaving the 2 corner ones as original, and not removing the bar across the middle.

So might either look into getting the grill already done, and the paint the outside chrome, as I think the black is just a bit too much black, or get out my dremel and filler.......

Number 2 is good, but when you dremel off the bottom of the badge it leaves a semicircular "hole" in the vertical slats. I couldn't figure out a way round that which is why I meshed it. Any suggestions??
