Spare tyre issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Cleaning the car the other night I noticed that the spare wheel I got it's not the same as the 4 wheels fitted to the car. It's a Bridgestone 205/55/16 91Y brandnew never used tyre and steel wheel. But how is this possible? Anyone else with this problem?? If I get a puncher could I use the 16" spare until I get it fixed?

The wheels I have fitted are Continental Contact 2/3 225/45/17 91V

Yep thats quite normal practice and perfectly safe.

I'd double check however v rated tyres are ok for the car though.

That is exactly the same as mine, except mine has a yellow sticker on it saying temporary wheel - even though it is not a space saver.

The two tyre/rim combinations have the same rolling radius (OK 0.3% difference , see TYRESAVE: Tyre Size Calculator), so no major problem. At least on a temporary basis under normal driving conditions :D.

the height of your spare tyre is larger that the ones on your car but the rim smaller making it roughly the same size

When I bought both my Skoda's, I specified that the spare shall be the same size/type/tyre as the other wheels on each car. It came in handy when I damaged one of the alloys (cosmetic damage, OK for the spare)

I do not see a point to a full size spare different than the rest of wheels - it's much better then to get a space saver and have more space in the boot.

Mind you, I often drive 1000+ miles at a time, and want to avoid looking for tyre shop in the middle of rural Germany in the middle of the night...
