slight jerk when cruising

Featured Replies

when i'm sitting at low revs in 2nd and 3rd gear and then attempt to accelerate, there is a slight jerk and the revs dip before it takes off,has anyone else had this problem? my mates 170bhp diesel golf does the same..............is it a problem for all?

Sounds like the infamous BLT engine stutter. Cure is to change one of the EGR feed pipe gaskets from 22mm hole to 9mm hole. Would be worth scanning for fault codes first, as it could also be a MAF sensor problem.

My standard VRS does the same, yeah sounds like the infamous stutter - due to too tight emissions regulations. Something you have to live with as changing the gasket size will give you an MOT fail I believe.

Not sure about the MOT failing part.

I have a 9mm gasket should anyone want it. PM me.

No MOT fail, as diesels only get a smoke density test. Reducing EGR gases will not increase smoke density. It will reduce the amount of soot going through the EGR though, and that's a good thing :D

The only cause for failure in the test would be excessive smoke, all the other gases are not tested, there is not even a need for a Cat .Convertor many here have ditched them for better exhaust gas flow.

Been running the 9mm gasket for nearly 2 years now and all good so far. It's also remapped with the EGR turned down about 75%.

Fix is very cheap with a good success rate.

If it's at 1800 rpm it's the infamous stutter.

I have a 10mm EGR gasket (enlarged to try to stop the engine management light coming on during gentle driving, which hasn't worked) and just passed the first MOT with it in place. I think you will fail an MOT if the eml light is on at the time of the test though.

Nah engine light is fine i believe, passed an MOT with an Allard valve on
