Stripping & rebuilding a stock fabia seat into something better?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has ever totally stripped down a stock fabia seat.... Is there potential for the foam to be replaced with a custom setup to provide much better bolster support on the sides around the thighs, lower back, and a bit more bolster surpport in the middle too.

Having never taken a seat apart, I am a little lost on this. Thanks

I would of though so it would just be a case of glueing some foam on the foam thats already there then shapping it like you would filler etc?

Might be just as well getting a pro to do the work- or seeign if those awesome seats from the Audi RS4 would fit

Not made of money! :P A pro will definitely be doing it, but wanted the opinion of someone who has taken these seats apart. :)

The only seats i re did were for a friends zetec-s

We did some really worn out Puma Raceing Seats, took us 3 days after he sourced the foam,

We used a sharp knife followed by sand paper once we had the basic shape. The faom on the side bolsters, and thigh sides was alot stiffer and thicker as you can imagine but the rear and base were softer.

Sorry i doent what sort of foam but best i can offer.

Maybe just ask soem like seat surgen or a local uphostery (sp) place to recommend so foam densitys for what you intend to do?

What happened about the mk5 Golf seats?

I used Trim'll Fix It, South West No 1 Car Interior Specialists In Automotive Trimming And Upholstery, Traditional And Modern Upholstery Skills, Modern And Classic Cars, Complete Interior Restoration Service. to do some added bolstering to an old Ibiza Diesel I had many, many, many moons ago which didn't have sports seats as standard. I would imagine the seat frames etc would be very similar to Fabia ones. All they did was remove the cover, cut some firm foam to fit me nice and snugly with a little bit more bolster-ing and re-fit the covers. Or they could easily make new covers for you in a sportier design(?)

Thanks for the link. They're even MORE local! Enquiry sent. Given up on mk5 Golf GTI seats due to a) everyone wanted stupid money for them, and B) logistics of fitting them. :)

"Trim'll fix it" That is BRILLIANT

you don't get that kinda humour away from the south west

Yeah it's a good name for sure! They've been round for years, not sure who runs the place now but it used to be the son of a used car dealership owner who specialised in VW stuff (dealer p/x'es etc). The unit was round the back of the showroom. I'll check to see if they're still there next time I go past.
