Is the age of the car related to the current v1989 update issues?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if the age of the car, and therefore the Infotainment unit, is a contributing factor when it comes to the current issues people are having when installing the latest v1989 software update?

Is it worth commenting on here if you have had issues or not and what age your car is to try and see if there is a relationship between the age of the car and whether issues have arisen?

It might be a good idea for forum contributors to include the following information:

- the month/year of manufacture of their car, if they know it ;

- the infotainment hardware and screen hardware ;

- whether any work was carried out on it due to phantom reboots/uncontrollable sound BEFORE installing SW 1989.

Applied the 1989 update manually via USB, then, as I have always done, Factory reset the Infotainment Unit via settings. Re-added myself as Primary User and also my wife as another user (handy as the user is linked to your key fob and adjusts the electric seat position)-no problems at all to report. Definitely think the factory reset is a worthwhile step, but also maybe updating the system in one step via USB is better than OTA?

Mine did the update the other day and it's a MY23 RS, it downloaded it quickly as I was near UniS in Guildford and it updated without any further interventions or hassles, no need to do a factory reset or anything.

It then did a set of 6 additional updates the next time it started and they all went in uneventfully and all fine and good so far.

No problem yet with 1989, apart from reconnecting devices after a factory reset.

Been cancelling mine for a couple of months before it, for some reason, just downloaded it last week.

Anyway carried out a system factory default restore afterwards just in case and all seems ok apart from it taking a couple of attempts to log me back in again and then the Traffication app taking a couple of times uninstalling/installing to get it to connect to my account again and also having to disable and re-enable the notifications for that app.

My own car’s details as per the image. (January ‘22 car).

It could be you have to activate it again in settings, happens to me with my compass if I ever run updates. So scroll to settings via your steering wheel, enter settings, find MPG then tick the box to make it selectable

guys why isn't anyone helping me and others that have the same problem with octavia

i all i can find is files for the moi3 system, but nobody is actaully helping the ones with MEN3 system

i need a link for the latest version so i can put it on a usb c drive and install it.

Hello!

I am new to Skoda, my 2021 Octavia iV 1.4 TSI PHEV being my first one.

I bought it a few months ago and I was wondering how to update to the latest software for my Infotainment unit because I am pretty sure is outdated and also because the version I have has a few bugs like freezing and radio issues.

I posted the versions that I have and I kindly asking you to help me with a step-by-step update because I am a newbie and I don’t want to break anything here. I don’t even know exactly what type of unit I have (Columbus, Bolero etc) and where to begin. From time to time it asked me for some OTA updates and I accepted them but that’s it, it didn’t changed much.

Thank you in advance!

@audiexp You have Columbus infotainment, and your software is quite a bit out of date.

1989 is the latest version, but there were quite a few others between that and 1803.

Not entirely sure you can update straight from one to the other, my own car was running 1896 when I first got it and I was able to update straight to 1985 with that, which I did thanks to some really helpful guides posted here in this forum.

So going off my own experience only, I would suggest to try a search for 1896, I'm pretty sure a link to download it has been posted here at some point, and I'd imagine you could go from 1803 to that in one step, although I don't know for sure if I'm being honest!

But if you do manage to get to 1896, thej I know for a fact that you can go straight from that to 1985, again, a link to download that has been posted here on numerous occasions.

I actually stayed on 1985 as 1989 was causing issues for those who updated to it initially.

If all of this (and everything else you find via searching this forum) seems a little bit overwhelming, then I would recommend getting in touch with @East_Yorkshire_Retrofits who can help you out with not only infotainment updates, but any other outstanding updates your car has fell behind on.

Good luck!

Thank you very much!

I will search and try to follow your instructions.🙏🏻

Unfortunately I can’t find the links for the software versions to download, can you help me with a private message please?

Thank you sincerely since I managed to update the unit smoothly to the latest version. 🙏🏻

@audiexp Did you manage to go straight from 1803 to 1989? Great news if so, will possibly help others to know that's possible if they're in your situation...

I for myself had the exact same problem as @audiexp, stuck at 1803 in a pre-owned Octavia iV. i managed to find V1941 in a well-known source. I took the risk and went from 1803 straight to 1941 and from there to 1985 - all went without a problem (car was plugged in during the update and i didn't lock it after initiating the update and exiting, for what it's worth). Now I am being offered OTA updates again and I expect seeing the latest one soon.

No, I posted in the morning because I kinda lost almost all night (because having some issues with downloading and card formatting etc, not regarding the process itself), and I skipped explaining all the steps. I updated from 1803 to 1941 using the link you provided and afterwards I updated to 1989. So one intermediate update directly to 1941. Everything worked flawlessly, after the 1989 update I factory restored the system directly and reconfigured the primary user setup. Everything works well and it’s a huge step betweeen the initial software and this one.

Hello everyone,
im on 1896, and quite new on the update process.. can you guys point me out on download links and tutorials?

You search on this forum for 1941 first, you update it via USB C stick, then you also search for the latest 1989 and do the same. You will also find all the steps here on the forum.
