Dial Colours

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am going to be replacing the bulbs behind my instrument panel in my 1997 Felicia. I will be fitting white bulbs as they are the only ones I have been able to get. I was wondering, if it is possible to change the colour of the numbers on the dials. I understand that there must be some sort of coloured filter fitted to the back of the dial. Is it easy to modify or change the filter. Or would I be better off trying to use some form of glass paint to change the colour of the bulbs. Any help will be very appreciated.

it will be a filter, if you look on youtube there are some videos of felicias with modified displays that might give you a better indication of whats involved.

The green tint is in the dial itself so any colour you add would combine with the green, and also reduce the brightness of the lighting. One possibility is to use led bulbs but i have no idea how well they'd work.

Yep, the dials have a filter in them. The bulbs are clear but the instruments glow green.

my instrument panel is very dim compare to newer model cars, to compansate for this i'm thinking of disasemble the intrument panel, paint the inside with high gloss paint (it plastic dull white) maybe even spraying chrome paint (as a base or as a final coat) and that i know will give me more brightness, that and cleaning the dials themself, but, leds do produce more light and less heat, its a very good idea (if you can fit them)

Green Bulbs

Green = Green

Red = Yellow

Blue Bulbs

Green = Cyan

Red = Magenta

Red Bulbs

Green = Yellow

Red = Red

this is only perceptual the color doesnt realy change that much, but it does look dimmer because each filter reduces the bandwidth of the color spectrum (thus the lights energy)
