Battery warning light

Featured Replies

Hi

Ever since i returned from holiday at christmas the battery warning light has been staying on when I start the car. It stays on for about 5 minutes and then goes off for the rest of the journey. But this happens every time i use the car. It has been happening for nearly 2 months now but the car starts first time every time without fail so the battery is obviously charging. Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks

the alternator charges the battery

mind need to get VAGCOM on the car to read off the fault codes

Start engine and allow to idle. Put a digital voltmeter across the battery on 20V range. Reading should be about 14.5 volts. If low, likely to be alternator sense wire corroded at the plug on the gearbox, or alternator regulator pack faulty, or dirty slip rings/worn bushes for the alternator.
