Autobahns

Actually the Dutch are disputing both claims. Road and fuel taxes are horrible in the Netherlands and new cars (and cars up to the age of 4 years) have a special luxery tax between 20-40% on top of the 21% VAT.

I seem to recall there was a Danish member on here & he once explained their tax system.

Germany has a massive car industry & German's buy a lot of cars.

I can't think of any major car companies in Denmark, so they have nothing to loose by taxing cars heavily.

Anyway on the subject of autobahns ....

Pulled at a services this evening, 220 miles since the previous town, our average speed was showing 102mph

and our fuel economy 38mpg.

Unfortunately progress during the next hundred miles was hindered by some pretty nasty fog.

Hey guys....just read this with increasing enjoyment....I am living at Rheinland, about 50 kms east of Cologne, a few more kms off the A4. Maybe some of you watched the news by the time one of the biggest accidents in history happended here: # 9 on the list - a moron in a BMW caused a milion euro tanker truck crash with an unsafe BMW wreck....I live very near to this bridge.

Anyway, really appreciate that you like our area.... I live since day one and still like it very much. As for autobahns, it's no big deal for us as we don't know it any different. On my daily commute between my hometown and workplace I can't really take advantage as there is so much traffic you can't normally excess 120 km/h.

Btw, with me it is the other way round....I LOVE the UK. We often go on holy, for obvious reasons mainly to the South area as it is most convenient to get there by car. On May 22 we will cross the channel again, taking the ferry from Oostende to Ramsgate and that stay at a nice rock-cottage in Broadstairs - lovely village. Anybody here from around that area?

Anyway, wishing all of you loads of autobahn- and nürburgring fun and a great time whenever you visit germany. B)
