Jabba Caliper Carrier Conversion ?

Featured Replies

am i reading it correctly that the carriers here:

Brake Caliper Carrier 312mm Conversion Mk4 (Pair)

make use of the OE caliper meaning calipers from an OE 312mm setup are not needed ?

i dont see much mentioned on here about these, why is that ?

Would appear so!

The main issue would be the the cost as i can see it

A full 312mm set up (Carriers, Calipers, Discs & Pads) can be had for a little over £300

But I'm not calling the quality of the Jabba carriers into question

The thing is its not just the size of the discs that makes the 312mm conversion better, the calipers themselves are a better design and give more feel.

...the calipers themselves are a better design...

Oh, really? I wasn't aware that there was a difference. Do you know what the difference is?

I dont myself but that is what I have read on here

The OE calipers are not the reason for better braking power, the reasoning for going to 312 discs is the calipers are moved further out away from the center of the hub for which you need extended carriers. The caliper pistons & pads provide the same braking power as before but as the the pads are in contact with the disc further out towards the circumference of the wheel the braking effect is increased. Hope that makes sense.

Its a cheap way of upgrading brakes as the new carriers come from the Audi car range and many are interchangeable which makes it easy for us.

Just to clear everything up.

These are OE carriers for a 312mm conversion to accompany calipers etc.

When changing to the 312 set up does the new caliper have a larger piston than the standard caliper.

If it has how does this affect the standard master cylinder. Do you get better brakes and longer pedal travel or is it not affected.

Chris

Piston is the same size, its just a different caliper.

So you need also to change the calipers.

sorry but now im more confused than ever ?

Its quite simple and explained in the pictorial of fitting the 312mm brakes.

The 288 brakes fitted to the MK4 Golf (aka A4) platform are NOT the same as the 288mm brakes fitted to the Fabia.

The carriers as sold by Jabba are fine if you allready have the ATE calipers as fitted to that chassis.

The lucas brake system on the Fabia requires new calipers and those carriers as they arent interchageable.

so basically to use those carriers on a Fabia you need calipers aswell ?

..

:nut: I wasn't confused before, but I am now...

Basically, the rule is:

For the FABIA 312mm upgrade, you need to follow Stu's 312mm guide, and not deviate it from it any way. :D
