Brake Pad Wear Indicator

Featured Replies

Hi all.

My brake pad warning light has just recently came on.

The car had new discs last year just before i bought it but i cannot be sure if the pads were replaced.

There looks to be plenty of meat left on them.

The question i have is is there a fixed brake check like the fixed servicing or could it be that the pads are in fact getting low.

I`m sure i read somewhere that the service light and brake check light can come on at the same time if the fixed interval has elapsed,i`ve just today re-set the service light after i serviced the car this morning.

Thanks in advance.......:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I am fairly certain that light only comes on when the pads are low. Check the nearside inner pad as that is the one with the sensor on it. I would have thought the pads would have been changed along with the discs as it is normal practice but if the previous owner was feeling tight and planned to get rid of the car they may have decided to cut corners.

also the sensor could of come loose and snapped as mine had fallen out of the pad when i changed mine

The pads should have been replaced when the new discs were fitted. Old pads don't bed properly to new discs.

As others, check the LHF inner pad for a loose or missing sensor, or for a stuck sliding caliper.

My service indicator takes over the odometer on initial start-up when a service is coming up (about 1_000 miles or 1 month before due).
