When fitting coilovers to a car are they replacing the shocks??

as i think a shock has gone on my car or maybe 2, so is it going to work out cheaper to buy coilies than to but 2 new shocks??

If you are on about the front yes on coilovers the damper and spring are both in the front strut and the spring sits on a platform that can be wound up and down for adjusment.

On the rear though its a separate shock absorber and the spring sits on a cup on the rear beam which can be moved up and down,.
