One more time... Aux input to old Stream HU?

Featured Replies

Sorry for asking for what must seem like the nth time, but I'm having a bit of a senior moment trying to figure out my options and I've read so many threads on this now that my head is spinning! :o

I just bought an '06 Octavia II which has the 'old' Bosch Stream (not Stream mp3) HU.

There's no Aux input socket in the central armrest.

I have an old cheapie 20GB mp3 player and I'd like to connect it up and leave it in the glove compartment, but there is no 'Aux' input on the Stream HU, only a choice between FM, the single CD slot and the CD changer (which I don't have).

Am I right in thinking that my simplest/cheapest bet is the Connects2 CTVSKX003?

Obviously losing the CD changer function isn't an issue, and I'm not really worried about controlling anything other than volume from the HU (well, maybe track forward/backward or random play would be nice...)

Thanks in advance for any tips you can offer...

basically yes. but looking at it i dont think you will have the functionality on screen to change ipod tracks etc, might be worth asking before you buy.

Cheers, smstext. I wouldn't expect to have any sort of display functions using this, but does anyone know if the standard <>> buttons for the CD player allow you to skip forward or backwards through the tracks when an mp3 player is connected? (it's not an iPod either, just an old Acer portable HDD/mp3 player which I bought for well under £50 a few years back — you can see why I'm not keen to spend lots of money to hook it up! :P)

Cheers, simbo99.

One further question, if I may? — or rather, a doubt regarding what I wrote earlier about the unit having no Aux input. I checked under the menu and discovered that the audio controls have adjustable settings for Treble, Mid-tones and Bass (not just Treble and Bass, which I gather is a distinguishing feature of the 'old' Stream unit) and there's an option to toggle Aux on/off. Does this suggest that maybe my unit does actually have an Aux input, but just that there's no physical jack provided? In other words, if I were to remove the unit, I might find it's possible just to wire in an Aux feed without the need for a unit like the Connects2 to 'fool' the unit into thinking it's connecting to a CD changer? Only thing is, when I turn 'Aux on' and exit out of the menu and back to the normal controls, I still only seem to have the choice between Tuner, CD and (no) CDC...

I guess there's only one way to find out? :o

best thing to do is have a play with it and see, when i wrote the write up of making your own mp3/ipod lead i was using a stream mp3 and it was only after i saw the wiring diagram for the back of the stereo (thanks to vrstu's site) that i took the plunge and had a go. If i hadnt i would either be without the lead or would have spent the £100 to have a skoda one put in.

...more technically capable fellow Briskodians have tried with no success so I've no reason to doubt their attempts & have a go myself.
Your logic is compelling, simbo99... :holmes:

smstext, I'd love to have a go but I'm pretty sure the experience would be an unmitigated disaster. I'll be happy enough if I can remove the fascia and HU without blowing a (human) fuse!

Cheers to you both.

no probs all you need to find off the back is for any "left, right and earth" i.e. cd changer input or aux in and go from there.
