Brake fluid change @ 20K??

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

Just need a wee bit of advice here.

I just booked my Fabia vRS in for it's second service today. It's at 20,000 miles and is 18 months old.

The service dept. at my local Skoda dealer advised me that a brake fluid change at a cost of £35 would be necessary. I'm just wondering if this is correct as they also advised me that the total cost of the service would be £250!

Thanks in advance.

Its due at 2 years.

Brake fluid change is every 2 years regardless of mileage. I have just changed the fluid in the wife's Fabia which has done 11K in 2 yrs.

Thanks!

thats an expensive 20k service though, I paid 190 including the brake fluid back in November. Prestige garage in Coventry - not bad but not great service.

Just a wee bit expensive, Ive just been to star performance which is an indepandant garage. Was quoted £190 for service with all the normal stuff plus brake fluid change. Mine is coming to about £250 though as ive asked for a gear box fluid change.

If you have a VAG specialist in the area, i would try them. They are just as good if not better than dealers and use OEM parts and correct tools.

Hello hussarman,

Get a mate, buy a litre of brake fluid ( £12 ish ) , one-way bleed-valve kit, which includes a length clear hose and rubber hose ( £6 ish ).

An empty jam jar with a lid, clean rags and a spanner to release nipples, oh! and a jack.

Do this job yourself, and save yourself at least £28.00 the first year, and £34 every 2 years thereafter, with job satisfaction to boot.

Suggest renew nipples, adding a bit of copper based grease to threads for later years to come.

Skoda recommend brake fluid for my Fabia VRS specification " FMVSS 116 DOT 4 "

Good-Luck.

Before doing that though have a search and read through the threads with people who have borked master cylinders from not bleeding with a pressure bleeder.

Yes indeed, sometimes a Gunson Preesure Bleeder don't work either, they seem to work when bleeding the lower extremities of the braking system, caliper for example but not pushing new fluid past the master cylinder.

Considering the time reqd. to DIY, £35-£50 including the new Brake Fliud is good value.

why don't you give Ross and Ali a call @ Unit 18:thumbup:

I drove 3hrs to have them service mine and it was all good :) Even the drive there and back was quite cool too:thumbup:
